Four’s the Limit for Thoroughbred Gear

An interesting story came over the AP wire recently, with the New York State Racing and Wagering Board passing a proposal “allowing one of four types of steroids at a time used on a horse,” which also had set concentration limits for the drugs.
Now the guidelines will have to be evaluated by David “Pat the Bat” Paterson, governor of New York State, then they are sent to the Department of State for more evaluation, which includes a 45-day public comment period. Continue Reading »

Supplement One of the Better, But Not Gear

The rumors were running rampart back in 1990s. Did the guys making Hot Stuff put steroids in it to make it work? One of the stories was that the creator, Tom Ciola, included methyltestosterone (an inexpensive oral form of test) along with the smilax and yohimbe. We should be so lucky!
This, of course, was just a rumor, and possibly one started by the people putting this supplement out there, National Health. Hey, that’s good business. Start up a rumor, stir the pot, and reap the rewards.

The Guru’s Early Work and What It Means Today

When it was first introduced to us back in 1981, the late Dan Duchaine’s “Underground Steroid Handbook for men and Women” may have appeared to be a small pamphlet-style publication. The small type-set words complimented by Robert Crumb-looking cartoons was written in a light-hearted manner, which made it easy-to-read and interesting.
By the time a second version came out two years later – and followed up by the “Underground Steroid Handbook II” in 1988 – the entire bodybuilding community was getting the information that was unavailable anywhere else. Remember, back then you didn’t have the option to Google a steroid name and find out all the details. It was by word of mouth, and that is not the most reliable method. Continue Reading »

MuscleMissions.org – More Cult Following Than Good Intentions

Happened upon this website and I’m still not sure of their entire agenda. From what I gather, they are a group of reformed steroid users who have “seen the light.” They now feel compelled to get the message out there that the entire sport of bodybuilding is a quagmire of sin.
They go pretty far with their message, even asking the question if the late Dan Duchaine (“The Steroid Guru” and author of the “Underground Steroid Handbook”) is burning in hell right now?
The article (http://www.musclemissions.org/public/99.cfm) states that Duchaine may be “paying” for his evil-doing with his soul possibly being tormented for eternity, and that the stroke that he suffered in the early 1990s may have been ‘heaven sent,’ if you know what I mean.

More Reasons To Show Clemens Used PEDs and Lied About It

Sergeant Joe Friday would implore “All we want are the facts, ma’am,” in what seemed to be nearly every episode of “Dragnet.” That is precisely what we all want in the Roger Clemens steroids scandal. While there may never be that proverbial ‘smoking gun’ type of evidence, it is quite clear that The Rocket is not being totally forthcoming when his staunch denials of using performance-enhancing drugs are questioned.
From his soapbox statements on “60 Minutes,” to his press conference in Houston and the Congressional Hearings from the Committee on Oversight and Reform, Clemens has made it a point to at least be consistent in attempting to distance himself from any PEDs.
The man who clearly stated that he doesn’t “give a rat’s a**” about being elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame could not seem more like a liar, with that statement and his endless others.

Baseball Gets Headlines During Bonds’ HR Chase and Indictment

Love him or loathe him, Barry Bonds garners a lot of attention. Last summer, his pursuit and eventual passing of Henry Aaron’s career home run total brought a sideshow to every San Francisco Giants game, home and away. With the indictment being handed down on November 15, Bonds and baseball were once again the top story with the slugger’s perjury and obstruction of justice charges taking the lead spot in all news outlets that day. Coincidence?

Frank Zane Still Going Strong at 65
In the sport of bodybuilding, champions have come and go at a steady pace over the years. To sustain a lengthy career is quite an accomplishment in any form of athletics, and to be a top competitor in a period of time that spanned three decades in this field is definitely outside the norm.
That is if you’re name is not Frank Zane. The 65 year-old Pennsylvania native is still working out, and has no intention of stopping. “I am one of the very few people (former competitive bodybuilders) still training,” Zane said. “There’s Larry Scott, Bill Pearl, and me. Have you seen Arnold (Schwarzenegger) lately?”

2008 Arnold Classic Bodybuilding, Fitness & Figure Championships

In a world that revolves around money, even the sport of bodybuilding must make adjustments. The difference between amateurs and professionals in sanctioned International Federation of Body Building events is prize money being awarded to the winners. At the recent Amateur IFBB Bodybuilding, Fitness and Figure Championships held at the Arnold Schwarzenegger 2008 Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, money was no object.

8-Time Mr. Olympia Lee Haney – Simply the Best

When people think of bodybuilders, the first name that comes to mind is Arnold Schwarzennager. The ‘Terminator’ definitely did put bodybuilding on the map in the 1970’s and is still a great ambassador for the sport, but the fact of the matter is that Arnold does not hold the record for overall Mr. Olympia titles or even consecutive championships on the big stage.
That would be Lee Haney, who stood by himself holding the Sandow Trophy from 1984 to 1991, when he retired from competitive bodybuilding. Governor Schwarzennager won six straight Mr. O titles (1970-75), and his last in 1980. Ronnie Coleman matched Haney’s record from 1998 to 2005.

More than bodybuilding, more than professional team sports. “MuscleSport Mag” will bring you the two and the crossover market in both – anabolic steroids and what they mean to both entities. We will not pull any punches or give you some line of BS because it’s politically correct. We’ll leave that for the other places that jerk you around. We’ll give you the scoop on the so-called “legal steroids” or “steroid alternatives,” and if they are just glorified Flintstones vitamins with an expensive price tag.
In today’s society, the use of performance-enhancing drugs has taken center stage and many of the reasons why athletes have decided to go that route are unknown. In the world of competitive bodybuilding, the use of these drugs have been obvious and, quite frankly, accepted as ‘the norm’ and overlooked. That is a fact, and the sport has grown because of it.
When you look at the NFL or Major League Baseball, people are shocked because the players have decided to use the type of drugs that have worked for their brethren in other sports. It has been a part of competition since the original Olympic games in ancient Greece to get an advantage over your opponent, so the surprise for team sports should not be that they are using, but what took them so long to find that advantage. And now that they have, how quickly it has become ‘taboo’ to do so.
We will take a look at so many of the issues out there and also bring you interviews with the superstars of bodybuilding and the pro sports and their opinions on the subject.
