The big problem is that the New USFL keeps backpedalling. First it stated that there would be a kickoff season in 2008, with eight teams. Then it switched to 2009 with twelve teams, and then again switched to 2010, most of the websites show 2010, but alast it is slated for either 2011 or 2012. I do not believe this pro football league will get off the ground. Or if it does it will showcaes subpar athletics like the UFL, which has really bad players except for a small handful and the games are boring. If they did kick off and bring back the old nicknames and try to place those franchises in some of the old markets it might have a chance. But by prolonging the kickoff season is like saying we will be there and they never are. They still haven't named any head coaches or which teams are going to be in the league, just a bunch of cities. And to make matters worse, now if you look at the website it lists the states that will have a team, not the city. It is starting to look kind of slim to none. But I would love to see the Baltimore Stars, Pittsburgh Maulers, Boston/New Orleans/POrtland Breakers, Houston Gamblers, Denver Gold, Oakland Invaders, Michigan Panthers, San Antonio Gunslingers, New Jersey Generals, Orlando Renegades, Washington Federals, Chicago Blitz, Arizona Wranglers, Oklahoma Outlaws, Birmingham Stallions, LA Express. Man Those were great games. But now days people compare the new pro football leagues to either the NFL (the best) or the XFL (the worse) so there is no margin for error. Lets all hope that these financial backers know what they are doing and get this league off the grond and up and running in no time soon.Jim Kelly, Doug Flutie, Steve Young, Reggie White, Kent Hull, Erv Eatman, Marcus Dupree, Kevin Bryant, Hershel Walker, George Allen, Jack Pardee, Marv Levy,USFL fan for life.

If the New USFL uses the old nicknames as much as possible, even with a few slight adjustments made here and there, like the proposed cities listed as the nine contenders : LA Express, San Jose Invaders, (Little Rock)Arkansas Stallions, Las Vegas Gamblers, Orlando Renegades, Baton Rouge Showboats, (West Point) New York Generals, Portland San Antonio Gunslingers, and Portland Breakers, The added franchises could choose from the existing nicknames like the Bulls, Stars, Outlaws, Wranglers, Blitz, Gold, Maulers, Bandits and the Federals. This set up would be really awesome to watch and enjoy the games The New USFL

The main problem is the delaying of the opening kickoff, which was first slated to be 2009, when the old AFL and af2 went under, except that the AFL and the af2 combined leagues and resurfaced two years later, and still, no new USFL. Don't get me wrong, I went to some games, and they were great. But it seems that we are hanging onto a slim thread. The Founder and Chairman stated the new USFL didn't want to start up in 2009, and went with a 2011 with only 6 to 8 franchises, so the powers that be looked for a 2012 start up, this is four long years later when I first read about the league in 2008. We will get operations going in 2012. No team names or solid places where they are really going to play, they switch around alot, and no head coaches or players even looked at or signed at least. I believe The New USFL will not get off the ground for fear of losing capital and it would take at least three to five seasons before capital was returning to the investors. I don't buy it, the New USFL should've been up and running by now. They will fold just like the other three leagues that were going to start up but never did. Keep your memories, that is all we have left, Go Denver Gold

Come hell or high water the New USFL will hit the field in the very near future. With the present situation in the country investors are slow to open the pocket books, with the reality any return on their investment may take three to five years, the risk is high and the reward is small.
I for one see it, believe in it and plan on doing it. See you at a game!

Hey Rich - While we appreciate all comments (positive and negative), please have the balls to at least state some proof with something such as this. Not only have I personally spoken to Michael Dwyer, Founder & Chairman of the new USFL, but we have been far from the only sports media outlet that has reported this.

What I suppose pisses me off the most are people such as yourself who feel that they know more than others who are paid professionals.

When my dentist tells me I have a cavity, I don't question that and tell him to get "a real dental job." If you think that we invented this, then please feel free to visit the new USFL's official website, www. newusfl.com.

And keep the compliments coming, pal.

The league was anticipating to kick off in 2010, but had to push it back a year. They are also in the process of redesigning their website so a lot of info should be forthcoming. I'm not exactly sure about Louisiana and the salary structure so my suggestion would be to keep checking here and www.newusfl.com. We are going to be doing a lot of work with the new league and will be posting any news as it comes in.
