The queen still occupies her throne. For the fourth consecutive year, the Benton Harbor, Michigan native has been crowned Ms. Olympia and looked every bit like the true champion she is. Heather Armbrust gave her a run for her money, though, and finished as the runner-up. Debi Laszewski took third place with Lisa Aukland, Yaxeni Oriquen and Betty Pariso rounding out the top six.
According to the judge’s scorecards, Kyle (15 points) was well ahead of the upstart Armbrust (30). For her career, Kyle now has accumulated five Olympia overall titles. (In 2001, she won the heavyweight but Juliette Bergamann was named the overall champion.)
In her maiden Olympia, Kristy Hawkins placed seventh while Dayana Cadeau finished a disappointing eighth. Betty Viana-Atkins and Tina Chandler made the top 10.
Kyle, 35, took home a check for $28,000 as well as the distinction of adding more hardware to her already impressive career. She also has four Ms. International titles and has to be considered one of the top champions of her sport, if she hasn’t already.
For Armbrust, finishing second was quite an accomplishment when you factor in that she placed 14th last September in Las Vegas. Armbrust finished fourth in this year’s Ms. International and deserved better. She also was MuscleSport Mag’s pick to take the 2009 Ms. O and we will state right here, right now that Armbrust will win the 2010 show.
