The King of the 212 (formerly 202) class is in fact competing in the lighter division at the 2012 New York Pro after initially announcing that he was going to jump into the men’s open bodybuilding line-up. Kevin English’s strategy behind this move was to stay at a lower body weight heading into the Olympia in September.
Five days out from the New York Pro, English weighed 225 pounds and was looking as if he would have no issues making weight, especially with the added 10 pounds from the old limit.
Regardless of where he finishes in the Big Apple, the months in between now and the Olympia will be ones that English maintains an overall lower bodyweight than he would have if he competed in the open. This will help him get prepared for September and he will certainly be on point in Sin City to defend his crown.
