Meet Maryana “Red Bench Monster” Naumova, 13-Year-Old Russian Powerlifter
- Updated: July 21, 2012
This is part of a continuing series provided exclusively by MuscleSport Mag entitled, “This is Your Magazine,” where we profile the everyday athlete. If you would like to see yourself profiled here, please send us your story and photo to firstname.lastname@example.org.
I’m Maryana “Red Bench Monster” Naumova, a 13-year-old girl from Russia. I live in the suburbs of Moscow and I study in the 6th class of the Lyceum. In addition to the bench press, I have been doing sports aerobics and I am the champion of the Moscow region. I won almost all bench press competitions, held in Russia – regional championships, the championships of Russia and Europe.
In November 2011, I became world WPC champion in the 52 kg weight class. In May 2012, I became world WPA champion in the 48 kg weight class. I’m the youngest girl in Europe, which competed in professional powerlifting tournaments – such as “Battle of Champions” and “Eurolifting.”
At the moment my personal best is 90 kg. RAW.. And I’m not going to stop.
I started to lift, after my father, also a powerlifter, took me to one of his competitions. I tried to press an empty 20kg bar and was able to do it four times. Vladimir Kravtsov, the strongest Russian bencher and my idol, noticed me and gave me his poster, which still hangs on my bedroom wall to this day. When it’s hard, this picture helps me to overcome difficulties. I want to become a great athlete in order to have my posters also inspire children involved in sports. To do this, a lot of work expected for me.
I do not have any special diet. I’m not a bodybuilder, and the question of supplement is not so actual for me. Naturally, I try to eat only healthy food, more meat and fewer dairy products and sweets and soda and sure to drink plenty of pure water. When I cannot eat my ususal, I use some products of MHP and SUN. Every morning I drink a vitamin complex and vitamin C supplements.
I set more than 16 world records over a period of two years. At the beginning, these were children’s records, but now I’m competing with senior women. I have several records in the drug-free federations among adults. I’m also the author of the absolute record among teenage girls under 15 years.
‘This is Your Magazine’ is merely one of the reasons why MuscleSport Mag is far and wide better than any other publication out there. What other media outlet features the up and coming athlete, the same as if he or she was a professional in their industry? This is the place to get your face and story out there, and who knows what opportunities may arise from that type of exposure?
