2014 NFL Preview: AFC East

This will once again be a division with a single playoff team and it will be the usual scenario – the New England Patriots comfortably ahead of the three have-nots. Yes, these teams will be competitive and not get blown away every week but none will even threaten to dethrone the Pats.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

2013: 12-4, Prediction: 11-5

The core players will be a year older but when you have Tom Brady taking snaps, your team will be a winning one. The perennial Pro Bowler did not have a good receiving corps last season and the frustration showed at times. But the timing will be better the second time around with the young wide outs and they added Darrelle Revis to the secondary. Bill Belichick will always find a way.

MIAMI DOLPHINS

2013: 8-8, Prediction: 9-7

Ryan Tannehill looks like a budding star and he has two talented receivers in Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace. The running game gets a huge boost with the signing of Knowshown Moreno from Denver but the offensive line was shaken up with the Richie Incognito situation.

NEW YORK JETS

2013: 8-8, Prediction: 7-9

A tougher schedule than last year means that the Jets will slide back by at least one game. Geno Smith should be more than a serviceable quarterback in Year Two but will still do a few things that make you shake your head. They brought in some nice weapons to take the pressure off him (RB Chris Johnson, WR Eric Decker) and the front seven on the defense will be a weekly highlight film. But their two glaring team weaknesses on the offensive line and secondary will tell the story.

BUFFALO BILLS

2013: 6-10, Prediction: 7-9

Drafting Sammy Watkins was a great addition and C.J. Spiller is a good back. E. J. Manuel is going to continue to improve but this team is still a few years away from making any real noise.
