The Big Apple is the host of the bodybuilding extravaganza known as the New York Pro. Following the Olympia and Arnold Classic, this show is the next in line as far as prestigiousness goes in the IFBB. Formerly known as the Night of Champions, the contest is the crown jewel of promoter Steve Weinberger and always includes a night of ground breaking news in the industry.

There will be a huge line-up of the top physiques in the world in six separate categories: men’s open bodybuilding, men’s 212 bodybuilding, figure, bikini, men’s physique and women’s physique.

In the men’s open, a number of competitors will be making their professional debuts, including Steve Kuclo and Juan Morel. Big things are expected out of both and it will be an interesting rivalry that begins on Saturday, May 19 in the Empire State. Kevin English will make the switch back to the open class from the 202/212, and Cedric McMillan will look to improve on a disappointing placing out of the top ten a year ago here. From the few photos of him that have circulated online recently, it appears that Big Mac has come to do some serious damage.

Jose Raymond already has an Olympia qualification with his win in Louisiana last weekend, but appears to be the top dog here, as well. Expect huge ovations for local boys Guy Cisternino, Marco Rivera and Panexce Pierce.

One of the more interesting divisions will be the women’s physique for a number of reasons. Former bodybuilder Dayana Cadeau will be making her inaugural appearance in the new division, fan favorite Dana Linn Bailey is competing and Jillian Reville - who has finished third and second, respectively, in her first two shows this year – will be looking to move up one more spot again and earn her first pro win.

For tickets, please visit www.bevfrancis.com

Here are the full line-ups:

In the figure competition, Monica Speckling was the winner with Jami DeBernard and Ann Titone rounding out the top three.

Undefeated 19-year-old prospect Guilherme Bertholdo (6-0), the nephew of UFC Middleweight Champion and pound-for-pound great Anderson Silva, will look to extend his perfect run in Muay Thai’s amateur ranks and move one step closer to turning professional when he faces off with Chris Lazaro (7-2) of Las Vegas, Nev. in a welterweight (147 pounds) matchup on the undercard of the Lion Fight Muay Thai VI: Schilling vs. Marcus II full-rules Muay Thai event at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Saturday, May 12, live onLionFightPromotions.com.

“I am excited to finally test my skills against top level amateur opponents,” said Bertholdo, a member of Black House Team Nogueira, the famed training camp that is also home to Silva and is headed by MMA legends and twin brothers Antonio “Rodrigo” and Antonio “Rogerio” Nogueira in San Diego, Calif. where he trains under Kru (trainer) Alex Palma.

In Brazil, Bertholdo took up Karate and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at an early age before relocating to San Diego with his family. While his father has schooled him Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and helped Bertholdo attain the rank of purple belt in the submission fighting discipline, Bertholdo has gravitated to the sport of Muay Thai due to his love for kicking and punching.

“Striking is my passion,” he said. “My Kru (trainer) has really taught me to use my hands and angles and, because of this, I’ve learned to appreciate the beauty of Muay Thai. MMA is a sport that I eventually will focus on in the future but, for now, I want to sharpen my striking and compete in an all-striking sport.”

Bertholdo said he is knocking on the door of gaining his United States citizenship and would like to eventually represent America as a member of the U.S. National Muay Thai Team.

“I am learning from my senior (training partners) how to conduct myself and perform like a true fighter, I am not attending college. Black House Team Nogueira is my college.”

Bertholdo’s opponent, Lazaro, is a 24-year-old member of Hard Knocks Muay Thai gym and student of Renzo Asparria, whom Lazaro has been training with for the last two years. The matchup with Bertholdo will be Lazaro’s first since he sustained a broken thumb during training last year.

“I love this sport and I’ve been eagerly waiting to get back in the ring. That time has come now that I’m healed up and I’m looking forward to putting on a great show,” said Lazaro, a technical fighter known for staying in the pocket with his opponent and throwing hard uppercuts.

Reserved ticket seats for Lion Fight Muay Thai VI: Schilling vs. Marcus II, priced from $45, are on sale at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino box office, all Ticketmaster outlets (800-745-3000) and online at Ticketmaster.com.

Winners at the IFBB Pittsburgh Pro were Jodi Boam (fitness), Candice John (figure) and India Paulino (bikini). John has started the year off on the right foot with a runner-up spot at the Europa Super Show before this win. Boam has, as well, with a previous top-six at the FLEX Pro and top-10 at the Arnold Classic.

Since earning her pro card at the 2011 Junior Nationals, Paulino hasn’t placed lower than sixth in her first six contests. In 2011, she finished fifth (PBW Tampa Pro), second (Jacksonville Pro), sixth (Bikini Olympia), first (Ft. Lauderdale Pro) and first again at the Pro World Masters. At this year’s Arnold, she was the runner-up to Sonia Goanzales.

By Jared Silberkleit - Extreme Rules delivered big time and was a real home run show for WWE. Though some were a bit disappointed with Wrestlemania XXVIII a few weeks ago, this was a much stronger PPV overall and is currently the best pro wrestling show of 2012. All 3 of the main event matches went above and beyond expectations, and much like Money in the Bank 2011 we had a hot Chicago crowd all night long that greatly added to the wrestling. This was just a super fun roller coaster of a PPV and one of the first can’t-miss shows of the year.

Falls Count Anywhere Match: Kane vs. Randy Orton

Good choice to open the show given the stipulation. This was significantly longer than their Wrestlemania match. All brawling for the first 10 minutes. They fought all through the crowd, stage, and backstage area, throwing punches and tossing each other into things. Zack Ryder briefly attacked Kane when they went backstage. Felt random and pointless. Eventually things moved back towards the ring where the match shockingly got good. Orton scored with a ton of chair shots to the back before taking apart one of the announce tables. Kane teased a chokeslam but Orton laid him out and gave him a spike DDT off the table to the floor for 2. Orton scored another near fall in the ring with a superplex and Kane got one with a chokeslam. Kane went for a Tombstone on the chair but Orton escaped and gave Kane an RKO on the chair for the win. Crowd was really into it and this was far better than I expected. Very nice finishing sequence and good usage of the gimmick. Match Time: 16:46 Star Rating: ***

Brodus Clay vs. Dolph Ziggler

Random filler match here, though it’s odd that they would add one of these matches and not use it as a buffer between the main events. Ziggler got a very nice reception, and I wish WWE would do something with him because he’s one of their best talents. They had a Raw match. Very short, Ziggler worked over Clay for a couple minutes, Clay made his comeback. Clay won with a headbutt followed by a diving splash. This made me sad. Match Time: 4:18 Star Rating: *1/2

Tables Match for the Intercontinental Championship: The Big Show(c) vs. Cody Rhodes

The Tables stipulation was revealed on the Pre-Show via a spin of the Raw Roulette wheel. Show tosses Cody all over the place for the first couple minutes before Cody comes back with a Disaster kick off a leaning table in the ring. Get this finish. Show is standing on the apron when Cody dropkicks him. Show then steps off the apron, and in doing so steps right through a table on the floor. The ref sees this and calls for the bell. So Cody wins. After the match Show spears Cody, chokeslams him through one table, and press slams him through another. That was interesting to say the least. Tables matches are great to protect both guys’ credibility no matter who goes over, but they felt the need to get cute here. Cody got totally crushed here for no reason. This Big Show feud has really set him back big time. Too short to be much of anything and a stupid ending. This sucked. Match Time: 4:36 Star Rating: *

2 Out of 3 Falls Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: Sheamus(c) vs. Daniel Bryan

This was absolutely incredible. Thus far, one of the best matches of 2012 for pro wrestling. Sheamus teased the Brogue Kick early, playing off the quick Wrestlemania match. Sheamus catches a flying Bryan off the apron and slams him hard into the barricade. Bryan controls things for several minutes with absolutely flawless mat work and submissions. Sheamus responds with the clubbing blows in the ropes but Bryan relentlessly kicks him in the corner. Sheamus blocks a top rope hurricanrana and hits a diving shoulder block for 2. Sheamus goes shoulder first into the ring post and Bryan wastes no time targeting it. Bryan fires away with kicks to the shoulder in the corner and gets DQ’d for not stopping at 5. But Bryan has a big smile on his face as this was all part of his gameplan. Bryan hits a huge dropkick in the corner and puts Sheamus in the Yes Lock. After a lengthy struggle, the ref calls for the bell due to Sheamus being unresponsive. So we are tied at 1-1. Trainers check on Sheamus for a while before he starts to stir. Bryan charges Sheamus and eats a Brogue Kick, but kicks out of 2. Bryan hits another series of kicks, including a brutal one to the head for a near fall. Bryan misses a diving headbutt and Sheamus comes back with some double sledges, the Irish curse backbreaker, and a final Brogue Kick for the win. Outstanding match. This was an amazing display of in-ring storytelling and psychology. Bryan did an amazing job targeting the arm, everything he did made sense, and Sheamus sold accordingly. The story was perfectly laid out and the crowd was electric. Just amazing, amazing professional wrestling and a great example of why Bryan is the best wrestler in the world today. Match Time: 22:56 Star Rating: ****1/2

Handicap Match: Aaron Relic and Jay Hatton vs. Ryback

This was a bit random. One of the jobbers keeps yelling “TWO IS GREATER THAN ONE” before Ryback comes out. Ryback got very loud “GOLDBERG!” chants while he was out there. Total nothing squash match. Ryback got the quick win with a Samoan drop on one of the jobbers. No use rating this thing. Match Time: 1:51 Star Rating: N/A

Chicago Street Fight for the WWE Championship: CM Punk(c) vs. Chris Jericho

In a novel idea, both guys actually worked this match in street clothes. These guys had a tall task to follow the World Heavyweight Championship match, but they got plenty of time and were able to deliver another stellar title match. Punk chases Jericho around ringside early before Jericho tosses him into the barricade. Punk’s sister, who was sitting front row, slaps Jericho and Jericho goes after her, enraging Punk. Punk assaults Jericho like crazy, tossing him through one of the announce table covers. Both guys use a kendo stick on each other and we got some great finisher counter sequences reminiscent of their Wrestlemania match. Jericho dumps a beer on Punk to play off the angle. Jericho sends Punk headfirst into a chair in the corner and hits a Codebreaker for a near fall. Punk struggles in the Walls of Jericho, but escapes with the use of a fire extinguisher. Punk makes a comeback and lays Punk out on the Spanish announce table. After slipping at first, Punk rights himself on the top turnbuckle and hits a Savage elbow drop through the announce table. Punk applies the Anaconda Vise in the ring, but Jericho whacks Punk with the kendo stick to break it. Jericho hits a chair assisted Codebreaker for 2 and goes for the Go to Sleep, but Punk catapults him into an exposed turnbuckle and hits the GTS for the win. This was just a brutal, all out war. The only thing this was missing was blood. These guys used a lot of pieces from the feud and just destroyed each other with weapons and their signature moves. Crowd was behind the hometown guy Punk big and the storytelling was awesome. Excellent match. Match Time: 25:14 Star Rating: ****1/4

WWE Divas Championship Match: Nikki Bella(c) vs. Layla

Beth Phoenix was selling the storyline injury, so Nikki was set to defend against a “mystery opponent” which turned out to be the returning Layla. They tried but this was very sloppy and not good. Layla did a cool cross body out of the corner which was about the only highlight. Layla won with a neckbreaker after they did the twin switch. Pointless. Match Time: 2:28 Star Rating: 3/4*

Extreme Rules Match: Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena

This was unique to say the least. Brock opened with a takedown and quickly busted Cena open with strikes to the face. Medics then briefly paused the match to wipe Cena’s head off, but Brock went right back after him and re-opened the cut. This definitely had elements of a shoot-fight but it totally worked and added to the intensity. Ref gets bumped early and stays down. Brock hit a pair of German suplexes before catching Cena in a Kimura. Brock is legitimately brutalizing a bloodied Cena here. Brock wraps the chain around Cena’s legs so he can’t stand and hangs him upside down from the ring post. Cena tries to fire back but Brock whips him into the steel steps. The ref finally wakes up but Brock takes him out as he delivers the F5 to Cena. A second ref comes down to count but Cena kicks out and Brock takes out the second ref. Brock goes back to the Kimura but Cena fights out and heads up top, only to miss the leg drop. Brock hits a leaping forearm off the steel steps in the ring, but tumbles over the ropes to the floor.

Brock goes for another one, but Cena punches him in the face with the chain around his fist, busting Brock open. Cena then delivers the Attitude Adjustment onto the steel steps for the win. First things first, the match was awesome. This was one of the most brutal and realistic WWE main events in a very long time. The intensity was amazing and you really got the feeling that you were watching a legitimate fight. This was something totally unique to pro wrestling and a style that few can believably work. However, Lesnar losing was monumentally stupid. For a guy with such a large contract, who is booked for several future big PPV money matches, how could you have him lose in his very first match since his return? Business wise it makes absolutely no sense and they might have lost money on future Lesnar PPV matches. They literally had this thing booked to perfection until Cena got the 3 count. That’s unfortunate, but it was still a great main event that must be seen. After the match Cena gets on the mic, putting over Chicago as a wrestling city and saying that if he’s going out, this is the way he wants to go out, banged up and tasting his own blood. This was done to set up Cena taking a brief break, as he’s been hampered by injuries lately. So Cena was being prepped for a break but yet they still put him over? Makes the finish even more mind-boggling. Match Time: 17:42 Star Rating: ****

Overall PPV Rating: 8.5/10
