Giants Defensive Guru to Take Over in St. Louis; Rex Ryan Next to Jets? -

According to a report by Adam Schefter, Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has been signed to a four-year, $11.5 million contract by the St. Louis Rams. The NFL Network’s super sleuth has been on the pulse of practically every move in football, so you can take this to the bank.

With ‘Spags’ off the market, the New York Jets will in all likelihood choose Rex Ryan as their next head coach. With Baltimore playing tomorrow in the AFC Championship Game, teams cannot hire an employee of another organization, but the Ravens defensive coordinator met with the Jets for five hours recently. Coupled with the fact that Spagnuolo, another favorite to land the Jets job, is headed to St. Louis, Ryan coming to New York looks to be a given.

Buy Steroids Online – http://www.steroid-club.com/Index.asp?RefId=39

Spagnuolo has been one of the ‘hot’ coordinator candidates and rumored to be in line for a number of jobs last offseason and ever since the regular season concluded last month. After being given accolades for his game plan in Super Bowl XLII, it was merely a matter of time before someone tabbed him as their head man.

Spagnuolo going to the Rams may reveal many things. For one, the obvious is that the Jets informed him they were going in a different direction. If they had made an offer to Spagnuolo and he spurned them for the hapless Rams, then that says volumes of what he thinks of the Jets organization.

Everything will fall into place by next month. If Baltimore defeats Pittsburgh and earns a spot in Tampa Bay on February 1, then the Jets have to show some patience before parading out their new man. That is, unless a new available candidate such as John Gruden fits into their plans.

Pacman Tells Softball-Throwing Stephen A. Smith Tales of Being Lakeside

The one-sided Stephen A. Smith brought out another side of Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones that we were unaware of. During a recent interview with ESPN’s resident Johnny Cochran, Jones said that instead of spending time at strip clubs, he has reformed himself and now can be found at the nearest lake holding a fishing pole.

As funny as this sounds, Smith’s agenda should be questioned, as well. For it was the same company that he works for – ESPN – that broke the story that resulted in Jones’ release by the Dallas Cowboys. And to top it off, Smith’s interview appeared before the scheduled “Outside the Lines” segment last Sunday night spelling out the allegations against Jones.

Buy Steroids Online – http://www.steroid-club.com/Index.asp?RefId=39

Jones admitted to being in the strip club on the date in question (which was during his year-long suspension for the strip club shooting in Las Vegas), but has stayed away from them since then. Threatening a lawsuit against ESPN, Jones, along with his lawyer Robert Langford, said that “it takes a couple of weeks for a lawsuit” due to getting the paperwork “and all that stuff in order,” but when it is done, “Some people are going to have to answer.”

Instead of pressing the issue of why there is even talk of a lawsuit and defending his employer’s decision to air the story, Smith did not do so. The actual piece that aired was very informative and included surveillance camera footage. The victim ‘Darian’, who appeared on the show with his identity hidden, was a recently retired Atlanta police officer at the time, and along with a friend, are convinced that as a result of an altercation with Jones in the club.

The case, which occurred on June 18, 2007, remains unsolved because the victims were unable to identify the shooters, who are suspected being part of Jones’ entourage.

If Jones wanted to file a suit against anyone, it would have to be the two victims who are accusing him. But that is not going to happen because after seeing the segment, it is easy to come to the conclusion that Jones and his pals, especially “Slugga” Morris, were directly involved in the shooting. All ESPN did was report what is merely public information and put it together for their viewers. But that was somehow lost on Smith, who – predictably – let Jones off easy with the questions.

It is one’s duty as a journalist to second-guess the person sitting across from him or her when they say something like this – “I’ve always been a family man, anybody that know me,” said Jones. “But I don’t kick it with the same crowd I used to kick it with. I’m more chilled to myself and I’m most of the time I’m relaxing instead of, you know what I mean, going out with the boys. And I’m probably at the lake fishing or something like that.”

That is word for word what Pacman told Smith and there are no typos to fall back on. While not trying to lean on someone too hard when they’re down, Jones doesn’t exactly sound as if he has ever spent a day in college. Oddly enough, when he attended West Virginia, he was named to both the Athletic Coaching Education Major list and Athletic Director’s Academic Honor Roll. After three NCAA seasons, Jones opted to forgo his senior season and entered the 2005 NFL Draft and was chosen sixth overall by Tennessee.

Both Brown and more importantly Smith did Jones no favors by bringing him in front of the camera/microphone. This man sounds more ignorant each time he attempts to explain himself and trying to convince the public that he is a changed man that will remind us of the intro to the “Andy Griffith Show” instead of the clown who outed the act of ‘making it rain’ in a strip club (throwing money up in the air at one of the dancers) should have resulted in Jones being taken to task.

Another surprising thing is that Stephen A. doesn’t make it hard to see where he is coming from. He is constantly bring race into the picture, if it has a place or not. Making a fellow African-American such as Jones look as bad as he did without even trying (which he didn’t have to) would seem to go against his usual grain.

Just goes to show you that Smith cares more about himself and the ratings he would get than his employer’s reputation and a fellow African-American, no matter how many times he stands on his proverbial soap box and shake his fist.

Cowboys Cut Troubled Player; More Legal Issues

Call him whatever you want. A ‘thug.’ A ‘criminal.’ I like to say ‘piece of shit,’ because that is exactly what Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones has proven himself to be. A wasted talent who threw away what could have been a long and productive career in the NFL.

His latest trouble in a laundry list of criminal behavior is an allegation that the cornerback arranged for another person to shoot at three Atlanta men outside a strip club following a dispute, according to a report on ESPN’s “Outside the Lines.” Jones made attempts to dispute the claims and even appeared on CBS with the great James Brown. What transpired bordered on the comical. For those of you out there in my age group, you would have expected to see Alan Funt crash through a false wall and tell Jones, “Smile. You’re on ‘Candid Camera.’” Here’s a bit of their conversation:

Buy Steroids Online – http://www.steroid-club.com/Index.asp?RefId=39

JB: What is it about strip clubs that you can’t stay away?
AJ: I haven’t been to a strip club since that incident. I live and learn, you know, I like the strip clubs.

And more…

JB: Have you shown any remorse?
AJ: I hope so.

Coming from a young man of 25, it is almost understandable that he sounds totally ignorant. He did admit to having an alcohol problem and attended AA, so let’s give him a little credit there. The strange thing is that Jones feels he will be back in the NFL next year and with the Cowboys, too. Jerry Jones, who has to feel burned over this obvious mistake, is out of his mind if he brings back Jones.

Sometimes you get what you wish for, but regret it in the end. That may just be the case this Tuesday on WWE’s ECW when the brash Jack Swagger faces Matt Hardy for the championship. It all fell into place for the undefeated newcomer when on this past week’s show, he defeated Finlay and Hardy survived a non-title match with the World’s Strongest Man, Mark Henry.

ECW general manager Teddy Long granted Swagger’s wish and he will get his shot at glory. As far as entertainment purposes go, look for Swagger to either win the belt or come damn close, setting up a long and drawn out war between the two. It makes perfect sense, with no one else in the WWE-offshoot faction being worthy of the throne. Besides John Morrison and The Miz (the ECW Tag Team champions), who else is marketable enough to deserve the championship?

Rival League from the ’80s on the Table Again; All it Takes is $1 and a Dream

Are you ready for some (more) football? I’m sure the answer is ‘yes,’ especially with the “one-year hiatus” of the Arena Football League. Back from the dead comes the reincarnation of perhaps the best rival to the NFL since the AFL merger, and this time we won’t even have to deal with that annoying Donald Trump trying to be a sports guy.

Scheduled for 2010, the New USFL (www.newusfl.com) will be on the landscape. Break out the mullets and Duran Duran albums! Gridiron from the tackiest of decades will be making a triumphant return after a quarter century. And I must admit that I’m a little pumped up for it.

Games will be played in the spring and I suppose that they can use that $1 court settlement to get things off the ground when Trump and the boys sued the NFL back in 1985 to play in the fall. States awarded teams so far are: [Western Division] – California (2); Nevada; Portland; Texas; Louisiana. [Eastern Division] – Florida; Arkansas; New York; Michigan; Ohio; Alabama.

According to the league website, there will be a 16-game regular season, no touchbacks on kick-offs (ball spotted at the 15 if it goes out of the end zone), 4 points for a field goal over 50 yards, 3-point PAT from 10 yards out, one foot inbounds for a catch, no kneel downs, 4-point safeties and the ssame OT rules as in college.

Also, fans can buy stock in any of the teams. That sounds like something the United Football League has been trying, but still hasn’t gotten off the ground.

Can this work? Absolutely, as long as the league knows where it stands. The NFL will never be touched by any league in any sport in this country. So keeping that in mind, they can play a full schedule during the offseason and maintain some type of fan base.

What will be key is where the teams will play. Full-sized arenas are very important and with the shaky economy, paying rent at a 70,000-seat venue hoping to get good attendance may be too much to ask for. If teams play at small or D2 college stadiums, that will take a lot of the energy and ‘mystique’ away that this is a serious professional league. The XFL and the original USFL played in large venues, but much of the time the dreaded ‘black drape’ was part of the upper deck.

The league has set up an Advisory Committee that includes some former NFL and USFL players, Jack Youngblood (former LA Ram) being the most recognizable.

Capital was never an issue with the original league until the end and many an NFL star began his career playing in the USFL. Jim Kelly, Herschel Walker, Doug Flutie and Reggie White just to name a few. That probably will not be the case this time around.

The guys taking the field will be back-ups who have been released from an NFL team, hanger-ons, AFL and CFL players. Without NFL Europe and the likelihood that the AFL is gone for good, there will be a talent pool. The USFL can make a slight dent, as long as they stay away from the “He Hate Me” gimmicks.

What’s Next – No Flintstones Vitamins for America’s Pastime?

<img src="http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1591/6874084/19763287/350284526.jpg" align="right"alt="" />

Call it a knee-jerk reaction from the entire Mark McGwire/Andro fallout. Anything that can be perceived as more than a multi-vitamin will be scrutinized by a performance-enhancing drug paranoid Major League Baseball. The latest to take the fall are pitchers J.C. Romero and Sergio Mitre, who claimed to have taken nothing stronger than 6-OXO and Halodrol, respectively.

Maybe one or both of them did use something more than what they have claimed. That remains to be seen, especially if what triggered the positive tests can be the result of more than one substance. But on face value, MLB handing down two 50-game suspensions for what has been described as a “trace amount of a substance prohibited under Major League Baseball’s joint drug prevention and treatment program” smells of overkill.

Buy Steroids Online – http://www.steroid-club.com/Index.asp?RefId=39

Both supplements are legally sold over-the-counter in any health food store and have not even attracted much attention in the bodybuilding industry. According to the Ergopharm website, 6-OXO “has become the new gold standard for testosterone elevation” and that it differs from prohormones because it only effects the brain to produce more testosterone instead of containing drugs that target other areas of the body. Another plus pointed out is that 6-OXO does not cause ball-shrinkage or induced liver toxicity, as warned in the text here about prohormones and steroids. Because both are actual side effects from products that really work, a potential 6-OXO buyer really needs to think hard about spending his or her hard-earned cash for this product.

The mainstream media had a field day by pointing out that developer of 6-OXO was none other than Patrick Arnold, he of BALCO fame. Just because the chemist created ‘The clear” and other undetectable steroids in the past does not mean that he is doing the same with his supplements. To insinuate that there is any connection there is totally ludicrous.

Halodrol, which Gaspari Nutrition sells under the familiar-sounding moniker of ‘Halodrol-50,’ is merely another product that promises to be the “best size and strength gaining supplement currently sold that is not outright illegal or over toxic.”

Get one thing straight – the only substances that will work like steroids are steroids. All the supplements and shakes in the world may give you some energy and size, but to expect to look like Arnold after buying a box of one of these pills is pure fantasy.

If Romero and Mitre tried to do the right thing and use supplements to stay in shape and help them at the gym, then their suspensions are uncalled for. These products are not going to enhance one’s performance to the extent that anabolic steroids would. A level playing field is what baseball is looking for, but a good training regiment along with a proper diet and supplementation should be the minimum that a professional athlete does.

Keep in mind that because many of these products will give off a positive test similar to certain steroids, it is a built-in convenient excuse to blame them. If McGwire merely used a then-legal Andro (and it’s label stating that it will test positive for steroids), why did he clam up in front of Congress?

After 2-2 Wild Card Round, Looking for Improvement

<img src="http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1591/6874084/19763287/342415047.jpg" align="right"alt="" />

After splitting the four games in the wild card round of the NFL Playoffs, I’m looking to rebound and get all four of these right. You can’t kill me on Indy, but you can on the Fish. So to make it up yo you, here it is:

Baltimore at Tennessee
Arizona at Carolina
Philadelphia at NY Giants
San Diego at Pittsburgh

I wanted to go with all four home teams, but pulled the trigger for the upset with the streaking Bolts. Pittsburgh’s offense shouldn’t scare anyone and they are beatable at home, as the Giants proved during the regular season.

Buy Steroids Online – http://www.steroid-club.com/Index.asp?RefId=39

In the other AFC match-up, I still am not impressed with the Titans and have trouble with this pick, but I still say the rookie quarterback vs. the savvy veteran will make a difference. The Ravens have played so well and the Titans may be coming in a bit flat, so I smell a possible upset here, just not strong enough to go with the underdog without a point spread as part of the equation.

Big Blue would rather have seen anyone else besides the Eagles here, but will prevail in the end. The team has stated that the week of rest has come in handy after a grueling regular season schedule. Even in defeat, Philly fans have to feel good about their team this year, and they will go down swinging.

The Panthers will blow out the Cards and send them home happy with their one playoff win, setting up a great NFC Championship Game in the Garden State.

Threat to Bolt After Season Not Exactly Earth-Shattering

<img src="http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1591/6874084/19763287/331269199.jpg" align="right"alt="" />

Edgerrin James hasn’t been the player the Arizona Cardinals thought they were getting when they signed the dreadlocked running back as a free agent from Indianapolis following the 2005 season. Yes, he did rush for over 1,000 yards his first two seasons in the desert, but he didn’t eclipse four yards per rush in more than 300 attempts in each.

This year, it all fell apart for the former Colt when he only had 514 yards on 133 attempts. At one point, he was third on the depth chart and fell out of favor with the franchise. He was used as the feature back (100 yards on 14 carries) in the season finale in a meaningless win over Seattle, with the cardinals having already clinched the weak NFC West crown a few weeks earlier.

After being rebuffed by the front office in November after asking to be released, James, 30, now has publicly stated that he will not return to the team in 2009 even though he has a year remaining on his contract.

Buy Steroids Online – http://www.steroid-club.com/Index.asp?RefId=39

According to a report by ESPN, James said, “I can’t go through this again. I didn’t come here to block. I’m not an offensive lineman.”

The timing of James’ comments come at a time when the team needs to concentrate on it’s wild card playoff game Saturday afternoon versus the surprising Atlanta Falcons. Any distractions – especially from a veteran with nine playoff games in his pocket – cannot be comforting for Arizona head coach Ken Wisenhunt.

Although James may have a leg to stand on by wanting to run the ball more, he has been a thorn in the team’s side all year long. Opening his mouth days before the team’s most important game in over a decade will not bode well with any general manager around the league.

Owner May Have Had Unrealistic Expectations After Bringing in QB

<img src="http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1591/6874084/19763287/340437143.jpg" align="right"alt="" />

Once the Jets finished their offseason shopping spree by bringing in Brett Favre, team owner Woody Johnson my have had visions of grandeur and foolishly thought that he was getting the quarterback of old, not just an old quarterback.

Even when the Jets were 8-3, they were winning in spite of Favre, not because of him. Their five-game winning streak was the one part of the season where Favre was not forcing the long throw and was having success underneath. Why they went away from that and started having the 39-year-old put the game on his shoulders is also a question that needs to be answered.

Buy Steroids Online – http://www.steroid-club.com/Index.asp?RefId=39

Not even waiting 24 hours to digest what happened, Johnson canned Mangini the morning after the 24-17 loss to Miami that completed the Jets’ December collapse. “I appreciate everything Eric Mangini has done for this organization over the past three seasons,” Johnson said in a statement the team released on Monday. “He is a bright, young football mind and I wish him success in the future.

“In our judgement, we made the decision we believe is in the best interest of the organization. We will begin the search for the next head coach of the Jets immediately.”

And that man will no doubt definitely NOT be Bill Cowher or Mike Holmgren. Neither will be on any sideline next fall, especially not one as shaky as the Jets’.

This is an organization that is in a transition period, one that may go smooth or take a long time to fix. The quarterback position is one that holds the most questions. Both Johnson and general manager Mike Tannenbaum stated that they would like Favre to return. A man turning 40 who led the league in interceptions (22) with possible shoulder issues is not a formula for winning. That was proven in the past five weeks, when the Jets were lucky to win even one of those games.

The remaining QBs on the roster are either unproven youngsters (Brett Ratliff, Erik AInge) or one that has proven himself unworthy of starting (Kellen Clemens).

Whatever direction the Jets go, the quick hook given to Mangini shows that Johnson expected big things out of this team, especially because of Favre’s presence. Unfortunately, the Jets were about five years too late.
