Texas-based mixed martial arts fight promotion company, Shark Fight Promotions, announces the premiere of Shark Fights 15 on FUEL TV as part of FUEL TV’s Friday Fight Night on Friday, June 17 and Friday, June 24, at 10:00PM ET/PT. In addition, Shark Fight Promotions names former WWE and WCW wrestling star and prominent MMA and reality TV host Bill Goldberg as color commentator, providing insight to Shark Fights’ lead announcer Erik Apple.

Goldberg joins Apple for the call of Shark Fights 15 from the Santa Ana Star Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Shark Fights 15 is the first Shark Fights held outside of Texas. UFC veteran Chris Camozzi and Strikeforce veteran Joey Villasenor headline the event, with the co-main event featuring a compelling middleweight match-up between UFC veteran Dave Branch and TUF 7 alum Jeremy May. The high octane fight card features 12 action-packed bouts.

Throughout his illustrious wrestling career, Goldberg has multiple world championship titles and boasts the longest undefeated winning streak in pro wrestling history. After retiring from wrestling, Goldberg began work as a commentator for MMA promotion EliteXC. He has hosted numerous TV series including Bullrun on Speed and Garage Mahal on DIY. Goldberg also does numerous appearances throughout the year, and is extremely active in U.S. Military support work. But his true love continues to be the fight game.

According to Shark Fights executive Wes Nolen, “Having Bill Goldberg on our broadcast team is a dream come true. He is a true legend in the sport, and brings with him not only massive popularity but a real genius when it comes to calling the action on television. There is no doubt he will elevate the value of our broadcasts.”

Bud Brutsman, CEO of BCII and executive producer of the FUEL TV’s Shark Fights telecasts, was the point person in bringing Goldberg to the promotion. “I’ve worked with Bill Goldberg for years. He hosted two seasons of our show Garage Mahal, and just recently co-hosted a special we produced for Optima Batteries. We’ve always wanted to work together on a fight event, and now we have our chance. Bill is the consummate professional, and I know his work on the Shark Fights broadcast team will be not only entertaining, but also insightful. FUEL TV viewers are in for a real treat.”

A two-time U.S. Olympic wrestling team member (‘92, ‘96), Henderson is the only fighter in the sport’s history to simultaneously hold two different titles in two different weight classes (welterweight and heavyweight) for a major fight promotion (PRIDE Fighting Championships). A former UFC star, Henderson is considered one of the most decorated fighters in MMA history.

“It’s going to be a great fight. We’ve both progressed a lot since our first fight 10 years ago so it will be interesting to see who’s progressed more,” said Henderson, who defeated Babalu with a majority decision in 2000. “I’m looking forward to putting on a great show for STRIKEFORCE and for the fans.”

Sobral is fresh off a unanimous decision victory over knockout artist Robbie Lawler on June 16 at STRIKEFORCE Los Angeles, his first fight since losing the STRIKEFORCE title to Gegard Mousasi on Dec. 19, 2009. Prior to the defeat, Sobral had reeled off five consecutive victories.

“Dan and I have a lot of respect for each other and this will be a great rematch,” Babalu said. “I’m looking forward to fighting another top opponent at Strikeforce and will be going into seclusion for my training camp. When I’m not fighting, my kids come first. But, when I am in camp, training comes first because I am fighting for my kids.”

The 48-year-old Walker, the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner and two-time NFL Pro Bowl competitor, is undefeated at 1-0 in his latest athletic endeavor – MMA. A 1999 College Hall of Fame inductee who was also selected to Sports Illustrated’s NCAA All-Century Team that year, the 6-foot-1, 220 pound Walker already holds a fifth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and boasts additional training in the combat disciplines of Muay Thai and Kenpo.

On Jan. 30, Walker made an impressive professional MMA debut, scoring a third round TKO (punches) over 26-year-old Greg Nagy at Sunrise, Fla.’s BankAtlantic Center. Walker has been training in San Jose, Calif. with Team AKA, one of the most prominent MMA fight camps in the world that is also the home of former STRIKEFORCE world champions Cung Le and Josh Thomson.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the cage again at STRIKEFORCE and to be fighting on the same card that Dan Henderson and Babalu will be fighting on,” Walker said. “They are two superstars of the sport so it’s a great feeling to be fighting alongside them.”

“This is a great sport. I want to bring more attention to it so I can show people that. It’s a human chess match. I’ve always loved martial arts and that’s why I’m doing this.”

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. CT on Friday, March 5 at Bridgestone Arena ticket office, all Ticketmaster locations (800) 745-3000, Ticketmaster online (www.ticketmaster.com <http://www.ticketmaster.com/> ) and STRIKEFORCE’S official website (www.strikeforce.com <http://www.strikeforce.com/> ).

One of the most decorated figures in the history of MMA, Henderson, who left the UFC to sign a multi-year agreement with STRIKEFORCE in December 2009, is the only fighter in the sport’s history to simultaneously hold two different titles in two different weight classes (welterweight and heavyweight) for a major fight promotion (PRIDE Fighting Championships).

The 31-year old-Shields, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and resident of San Francisco, captured the vacant STRIKEFORCE middleweight crown with a unanimous five-round decision over fellow superstar Jason “Mayhem” Miller in a live CBS primetime televised matchup at Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill., on Nov. 7, 2009. Shields, who has not suffered a defeat since December 14, 2004, will put a 13-fight win streak on the line when he faces Henderson.

Since 2006, the 24-year-old Mousasi has reeled off 15 consecutive victories to become the top 205-pound fighter in the world. An aggressive, Dutch-Armenian fighter, who relocated with his family from Iran to The Netherlands when he was four-years-old, captured the STRIKEFORCE light heavyweight title by impressively stopping Renato “Babalu” Sobral one minute into the first round of their meeting at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. on Aug. 15, 2009.

Unbeaten since he made his MMA debut in Japan with a first round (2:11) TKO over Travis Wiuff on Sept. 28, 2008, the 28-year-old King Mo is a former NCAA Division I All-American and Big 12 wrestling champion for Oklahoma State University. With a mere 11 months of MMA experience under his belt, the Murfreesboro, Tenn.-born fighter decimated two-time UFC tournament champion and MMA legend Mark “The Smashing Machine” Kerr just 25 seconds into their meeting with a barrage of punches on Aug. 28, 2009.

Melendez, a 27-year-old Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stylist, reclaimed the STRIKEFORCE lightweight belt from the man who took it from him – Josh “The Punk” Thomson – with a five-round unanimous decision in one of the most ferocious battles of all time in the cage at HP Pavilion on Dec. 19, 2009. The stunning victory came just four months after the San Francisco native avenged the only other defeat of his career by stopping Japanese wrestling ace Mitsuhiro “The Endless Fighter” Ishida with an onslaught of punches in the third round (3:56) of a rematch on Aug. 15, 2009.

The 26-year-old Aoki, a dangerous submission expert who holds a black belt in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well as judo, is recognized as one of the sport’s premiere 155-pound fighters. His tremendous flexibility has allowed him to surprise many opponents, thus earning him the nickname “Tobikan Judan,” which is Japanese for “master of flying submissions.”

On Oct. 6, 2009, Aoki seized the DREAM lightweight title by submitting superstar Joachim Hansen with an armbar in the second round (4:56) of a championship bout in Yokohama, Japan. The event will air live on the CBS Television Network on April 17.

STRIKEFORCE in March 2009 signed a multi-year agreement to stage live MMA events on premium cable television network SHOWTIME. The promotion made its live, primetime debut on CBS with the “Fedor vs. Rogers” mega-fight that it co-promoted with M-1 Global on Saturday, November 7 and generated 5.46 million viewers for the main event between the world’s number one heavyweight, Fedor Emelianenko, and superstar Brett “The Grim” Rogers.

About STRIKEFORCE

Popular mixed martial arts fight promotion company, Shark Fight Promotions, announced today that one of Canada’s prime fighters, Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford, will face off with Shark Fight Veteran Anselmo Martinez at Shark Fight 8 in the main event. The winner will claim the promotions interim welterweight title, and will later step into the cage with Shark Fights current champion, TJ Waldburger, for a shot at the official title. Shark Fight 8 – Super Brawl will take place on February 5th 2010, at Fair Park Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas.

According to Brent Medley, President of Shark Fight Promotions, “Shark Fight executives agreed to create the interim welterweight title, after learning that there were several scheduling conflicts over the coming months that would keep TJ from defending his title.”

Medley went on to say, “We were very strategic when selecting an opponent for Anselmo, as we wanted it be an extremely compelling match up. I believe that we achieved our goal by signing Ryan Ford. Both fighters are incredibly skilled and both are hungry for the title. The entire Shark Fight 8 card is stacked with exciting match ups, including a co-main event featuring Kyle Bracey and Erick Davilla. I couldn’t think of a better way for Shark Fights to kick off 2010!”

Anselmo Martinez (5-1), a Shark Fight veteran with a history of winning by knock out, typically finishes his opponent in the first round. Martinez recently defeated Lorenzo Borgomeo at Shark Fight 7, clinching his fourth straight win in the Shark Fight arena. Martinez, who was contemplating retirement late last year, decided to stay in the game and challenge himself by going for the gold.

His opponent, Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford (11-2), will be Martinez’s toughest opponent to date. Ford, often compared to Georges St. Pierre due to his remarkable athleticism, has an explosive fighting style and impressive mixed martial arts record. Ford was also the top ranked running back to come out of the University of Canada. On January 5th, Ford will fight in the United States for the first time in his career. His goal – to become the Shark Fight welterweight champion.

Throughout 2009, Shark Fight Promotions, a popular fight promotion company based in Amarillo, has consistently raised the bar for mixed martial arts (MMA) events held in the great state of Texas. As 2009 comes to a close, the company’s achievements have not gone unnoticed. Shark Fight Promotions was recently named Best Pro Promotion of 2009, by not one, but two notable media outlets within the combat sports industry.

Earlier this month Shark Fight Promotions was named “Best Pro Promotion of 2009” by Texas Fight News Magazine. Today, ULTMMA.Com (Uniting Locals Through Mixed Martial Arts) added to the company’s accolades by naming them “Best Pro Promotion of 2009 in the Midwest Region.” Shark Fights will represent all Midwest MMA promotions, along with regional winners Art of Fighting (Southern region), MMA Big Show (Northern region), and Rage in the Cage (Western region).

Krystle Granillo, Marketing Coordinator of ULTMMA stated, “In 2009, Shark Fight’s significantly raised its status, both locally in Texas and on the national stage. Shark Fight executives run their organization the right way, by stacking the fight cards with a mix of local and national talent. Through targeted media and marketing efforts, the company has also raised awareness not only for the Shark Fight brand, but for the entire sport of MMA.”

Granillo continued on, “The Midwest has always been a hotbed for MMA talent. Shark Fights beat out many other long running promotions from states such as Illinois, Oklahoma and Iowa to earn the title of Best Pro Promotion of 2009 in the Midwest.”

When asked about being named the best promotion in its region, Shark Fight President Brent Medley has this to say, “I can’t imagine 2009 ending on a better note for our organization. The Shark Fight team is made up of a group of people that define unwavering dedication. Knowing that everyone’s hard work has paid off is a great feeling. It is truly an honor to be named “Best Pro Promotion of 2009 in the Midwest Region.”

Medley had this to add, “I would like to personally thank everyone on the Shark Fight team, the phenomenal fighters that compete for us, our media partners, and our dedicated fans. Without you, Shark Fights would not be where we are today. It has been a phenomenal year and I can’t wait to see what 2010 will bring!”

Shark Fight Promotions has solidly positioned themselves as a top promoter within the industry. Since the company’s inception, Shark Fights has featured four title fights in four different weight classes, successfully broke the attendance record for outdoor MMA events in Texas, and made history by airing the first live radio broadcast of a mixed martial arts event in the U.S. Shark Fights has proven that they are a force to be reckoned with and will undoubtedly continue to build on their success.

The 2009 DREAM Welterweight Grand Prix Champion has won five fights in a row and nine of his last 10.

Zaromskis is coming off an utter destruction of Myeon Ho Bae, winning by 0:19, first-round KO on Oct 25. The victory earned Zaromskis the 2009 DREAM Welterweight Grand Prix crown. Remarkably, it was the third consecutive time Zaromskis won a fight with a head kick in the opening round. On July 20, 2009, he defeated both Jason High (2:22) and heavily favored Hayoto Sakurai (4:03) with head kicks to win DREAM’s 170-pound tournament.

Zaromskis turned pro on Feb. 4, 2000.
