More Philadelphia Players Unaware of Tie Rule During NFL Regular Season
It only gets worse. Just when you thought that Donovan McNabb was the only NFL player dumb enough to not know that a regular season game can end in a tie, a few of his teammates have come to their quarterback’s rescue. Running back Corell Buckhalter, wide receiver DeSean Jackson and linebacker Omar Gaither all admitted on Monday that they, too, were in the dark during the overtime period of yesterday’s 13-13 tie against the Cincinnati Bengals.
That makes three Eagles who believed that the teams would keep playing until someone scored, instead of the game ending in a draw after the extra session. The blame has to go square on the shoulders of Andy Reid, and the head coach told reporters, “I’ll take the responsibility for that.” But it isn’t as simple as that. Reid - who has been under fire due to the team’s lackluster 5-4-1 record - needs to explain how anyone wearing an NFL uniform could be as uninformed as that. The coaching staff either failed to do their job or the players are just plain stupid. Continue Reading »

Not falling for the ‘trap game’ mentality that has haunted so many teams over the years, the Jets totally dominated the hapless St. Louis Rams at the Meadowlands by a score of 47-3. After beating the Bills in Buffalo last week and having to go to New England this Thursday, it would have been easy to look past an out of conference 2-6 team.
That is not head coach Eric Mangini’s style. He prepares his team the same every week and was visibly happy after the convincing win. “With the completeness of the game, it’s something we’ve been stressing week in and week out,” he said. Continue Reading »

Jets Survive Scare in 28-24 Win Over KC

Brett Favre said in his post-game press conference two weeks ago in a victory over Cincinnati that there are no such things as ‘ugly wins.’ After Sunday’s come from behind 28-24 victory over Kansas City, the Jet quarterback didn’t go as far as making that statement again, but did admit that overcoming adversity and mistakes has its benefits.
“I’ve been a part of a lot of those games and I have been on both sides,” Favre said. “It sure feels better to be on the winning side.”
That seemed unlikely after Brandon Flowers returned an interception – Favre’s third of the game – 91 yards to give the Chiefs a 24-21 lead with 7:48 left in the game. But the Jets were able to put together a six-play, 46-yard scoring drive that culminated in a 15-yard touchdown reception by Laveraneus Coles on an under thrown corner fade, leaving only one minute left on the game clock. No Place to Go But Up for Birds Looking to Rebound

With the start of NFL training camps, MuscleSport Mag will bring you a team-by-team breakdown of all 32 clubs vying for the Lombardi Trophy on February 1, 2009 in Tampa Bay. We will start with the NFC East and work our way around the league.
Following a ‘kiss your sister’ 8-8 finish last season, the Philadelphia Eagles are hoping to make a come back in perhaps the NFL’s toughest division. A healthy Donovan McNabb will at least give the Eagles some continuity at the quarterback position, but after missing quality time with a bum knee, the veteran scrambler is a far cry from what he once was. Giants, the Team to Beat, Ring in the New Year

2008 NEW YORK GIANTS PREVIEW
This time, they won’t be able to take anyone by surprise. The entire league will be on the lookout for the Giants, and - if they know what’s good for them – emulate what they did in Super Bowl XLII to defeat the high-flying New England Patriots. Facing the task of replacing a veteran leader two years in a row, Big Blue will look to make Michael Strahan’s absence as inconspicuous as Tike Barber’s.
Playing in the extremely tough NFC East, the regular season will not be a cakewalk, but an overall weaker conference should allow the Giants to qualify for the playoffs easily. Eli Manning made all the doubters swallow their words and pride with a postseason full of magic, while head coach Tom Coughlin reaped the benefits of a championship after being raked over the New York coals. Final Training Camp on Long Island Before Facility Moves to New Jersey

At least for one more summer, the Jets will appear to be a New York – and more specifically – a Long Island team. Although they moved out of Shea Stadium for the swamp lands of New Jersey nearly a quarter of a century ago, holding training camp and the organization’s home office on the campus of Hofstra University made things seem almost normal.
Once this training camp concludes, Gang Green will pack up on September 1 and move to their brand new facility in Florham Park, New Jersey, cementing their roots in the Garden State. Come 2010, both they and the Giants will open their new stadium adjacent to the existing Meadowlands.
On Thursday, head coach Eric Mangini and the rest of the staff stepped on the field for the first day of training camp, and anticipated another ‘nose to the grindstone’ month of two-a-days, sweltering temperatures and job battles. Continue Reading »

Former Blazer Forward Faces 10-Game NBA Drug Ban; Let’s Not Jump to Conclusions Yet

Former Portland bad boy Darius Miles doesn’t even have a job, yet he faces a 10-game suspension in the event that he does catch on with an NBA team. The league’s Anti-Drug program has that same penalty for one positive test for performance-enhancing drugs.
With the name of the drug not being released, the Internet has been doing its usual irresponsible reporting methods putting anabolic steroids at the top of the list. To a certain degree, many of us have become jaded when it comes to steroids and athletes, causing us to immediately go there as soon as we hear anything about anti-drug programs. Continue Reading »
