Another great card took place at Center Island Sports in Ronkonkoma, New York on Saturday, March 20 with Fight the World wrestling’s “March of War.” TNA’s Homicide was in the house and his match was just one of the evening’s highlights.

*FTW champion The Grim Reefer defeated Lenn Oddity to retain his title. Due to a stipulation in the match, Oddity will be forced to retire as a result of being handed the defeat – Reefer was able to get the pin following interference from BQE partner Jay Lover. As Reefer, Lover and Tommy Buddz were celebrating, the two turned on Reefer. Lover then told the crowd that he helped Reefer win because he wants him and his title.

*In the FTW Tag team Championship bout, champions Jay Lover and Tommy Buddz were victorious in a three-way elimination match versus the teams of Bill Carr and Spaz and Even Karagius and Vinny the Guido – The hardcore highlight of the evening, this match involved ladders, chairs and even cheese graters. Spaz, a late entrant in the match when Carr had no partner, actuallly held his own for a while before succumbing to the brutality of the contest.

*Homicide defeated Jimmy Jact Cash - This was a continuation from a few months back when Homicide was present at an FTW show and called out Cash, who said that he would only fight the TNA star if there was a payday for him. “They don’t call me Jimmy Jact Check’s in the Mail,” he said. The pompous heel got what he wished for but the result was not what he had in mind. A back and forth affair was highlighted by Homicide suplexing Cash onto a line of chairs.

*The Rockstar defeated Earl Cooter – Gaining the upper hand early on, The Rockstar was unable to maintain his domination and Cooter turned the tables to take control. The battle then moved to the floor with the Rockstar regaining control. Cooter then was able to hit a kamikaze and went for a moonsault, which the Rockstar was able to avoid and turn the missed finisher into a pin.

*Joey Ace defeated Wes Draven - Ace came out and introduced his new manager, Lady Diamond Dee, who interjected herself into the match on multiple occasions. Her last proved to be what Ace needed for the win. With Draven perched on the top rope, Dee jumped up on the apron to argue with the referee and shook the top rope, causing Draven to hit the canvas. Ace hit his finisher and that was all she wrote.

*Balls Mahoney and Big Jim Sullivan fought to a no contest - As the former FTW champ and Sullivan duked it out, Jake “The Snake” Roberts appeared on the video screen and seemed to be enticing Mahoney from their tag team match back at the “Darkest Days” card. Mahoney had a hard time concentrating on the match and went backstage looking for Roberts. This set up a very interesting scenario for next month.

*Angel Ortiz defeated Spyral to earn the final spot in the ‘Road to Gold Rumble’ next month.

The next event will be “Road to Gold” and is going to be held on Saturday, April 24 at Center Island Sorts in Ronkonkoma. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

The January 9 Fight the World wrestling card on Long Island received a big promotional boost with an article in the Friday, January 8 edition of Newsday. In the Explore LI section of the newspaper, the cover story was about the evening’s TNA event at the Theater in Westbury and the huge steps that organization has taken to battle WWE for ratings.

A part of that cover feature had a nice write-up on FTW, for which MuscleSport Mag is one of the promotion’s sponsors. Any wrestling fan worth his or her salt would hone in on this mention and point out that ECW should have been mentioned in the same sentence as Sabu. That’s like writing a story about Joe Montana and describing him as the “ex-Kansas City Chiefs quarterback.” You get my point, or at least should have.

Either way, kudos to Alfonso A. Castillo, Newsday and FTW on this article, which is reprinted below.

Long Islanders thirsty to get their live pro wrestling fix this weekend will have a second opportunity.

On Saturday, Fight the World Wrestling will host “New Year’s Nightmare” at Center Island Sports inRonkonkoma.

The Ronkokoma-based wrestling company has been promoting shows since 2007 featuring a mix of local talent and former national stars. Saturday’s show features ex-WWE star Sabu in the main event, taking on The Grim Reefer.

Fight the World co-owner Brian Balch said that fans who have only attended wrestling shows promoted by national outfits are in for a pleasant surprise.

“It’s definitely a lot more of a personal experience,” Balch said. “You’re so close you can touch the wrestlers.”

Center Island Sports is located at 101 Union Avenue. Tickets for the event, which begins at 7:30 p.m., can be purchased in advance for $15 by visiting ftwprowrestling.com.

Ever since the original ECW was swallowed up into the WWE conglomerate, wrestling fans have been clamoring for the type of hardcore action that was only found in the Paul Heyman-led organization. Blood was not a rarity, but rather a necessity to keep the fans coming back for more.

Having the action spill over the security wall (or rather security fence) and continue in the middle of the crowd was merely part of the evening and handing one of the grapplers your chair for him to smash his opponent over the head became a badge of honor.

Ever since the semi-controlled riot known as ECW declared bankruptcy in April of 2001, there has been a void in the sports entertainment world. Sure, it has a weekly home on Tuesday nights on ScyFy as one of the three brands run by Vince McMahon, but it is more like a farm team for up and coming young guns and a few ‘name’ wrestlers to keep the fans interested. It is a shell of it’s former self and when was the last time that you saw barb-wire in the place of ring ropes? Even Tommy Dreamer, the last link to the old bunch, has been scarce of late.

All is not lost, though. Every month on Long Island, Fight the World Pro Wrestling holds an event that does more than conjure up memories of the old ECW. In fact, the FTW champion is none other than Balls Mahoney, who had a few bumps and bruises from those golden days back at the ECW Arena in Philadelphia, aka the “bingo hall.”

Sabu, another ECW veteran, has made appearances at FTW shows, as had Jake “The Snake” Roberts, who was a headliner for years with the WWF/WWE. In their next show on Saturday, November 21 at Center Island Sports (101 Union Avenue, Ronkonkoma, New York), Homicide from TNA’s World Elite is on the card.

The rest of the FTW roster includes Big Jim Sullivan, Dameon Slugga, Dan Barry, D.J. Hyde, Earl Cooter, Grim Reefer, Jay Lover, Jimmy Jact Cash, Len Oddity, The Rockstar, Vin Gerard, The Master Wes Draven and tag teams All Money is Legal, The Best Around and the Nigerian Nightmares, the current FTW tag team champions.

MuscleSport Mag has teamed up with FTW and is now one of their sponsors. Be sure to look for our banners and promotional items at their events and check on our website for regular updates on all the happenings inside and out of the FTW squared circle.

Tickets for their events are $20 at the door and $15 in advance. For more information and ticket purchases, visit their official website, www.ftwprowrestling.com.
