By Jared Silberkleit - Money in the Bank was a very impressive PPV outing from WWE. Featuring two strong Money in the Bank ladder matches as well as two world title matches that delivered, this was a very fun show and a huge step up from the lackluster Over the Limit and Fatal 4 Way. WWE is certainly rolling heading into their SummerSlam next month, their second biggest PPV of the year.

1. Smackdown Money in the Bank Ladder match: Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Christian vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Matt Hardy vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Kane vs. Big Show

The show kicked off with a bang as the opener was Smackdown’s Money in the Bank Ladder match. This match was a bit better than expected and was a lot of fun to watch. Everyone gangs up on Kane and Big Show at the start but the big guys fend them off and have a stare down with a ladder in the ring. Show takes down Kane with a shoulder block and tries to climb the ladder, but one of the rungs breaks when he steps on it. Show fends off Christian, Ziggler, Kofi, Drew, and Hardy before tossing the ladder onto Kane outside the ring. Everyone goes after Show on the outside, sending him into the steps. A brawl ensues and McIntyre props a ladder up against the side of the ring, then catapults Christian into it. Drew slides the ladder into the ring, sets it up, and climbs, but Hardy throws another ladder against his back. Christian and Hardy prevent each other from getting the briefcase and fight to the outside. Christian and Ziggler fight atop a ladder with Ziggler getting hip tossed off the ladder and Hardy pushing it over, sending Christian to the mat. Christian hits the Killswitch to Rhodes before hitting a double DDT with Hardy to Kane. They sandwich Kane in some ladders before Christian sends Hardy into a ladder leaning against the bottom rope. Christian scales a ladder but Cody pushes it over and Christian flies out of the ring onto Big Show. In the ring, Kane eats a Trouble in Paradise from Kofi and a Twist of Fate from Hardy. Kofi climbs a ladder but Rhodes takes him down with a back suplex off the ladder. Hardy and Kofi climb but Drew pushes it over, sending both men into the ropes. Dolph stops McIntyre from reaching the briefcase, but McIntyre throws him out of the ring. Kane puls out McIntyre and tears apart the two announce tables. Kofi dropkicks a ladder into Kane’s face before beating up McIntyre on the outside. He lays him across the Spanish announce table, sets up a ladder, and hits a huge Boom Drop off the ladder through the table.

Ziggler tries for the briefcase but Show shoves over the ladder and chokeslams him. Hardy and Christian try to take down Show with a ladder, but Show puts them down and splashes the ladder that is now lying on top of the two. Show then introduces an enormous ladder (both in height and width) to the match and struggles to get it in the ring. Rhodes hits Show with a ladder and tries for the case but Ziggler takes him down. Show tries to climb the huge ladder as Kofi springboards onto the other side. Show tries to put him down but Kofi hits a huge DDT. Cody hits a Cross Rhodes to Kofi onto a ladder before Ziggler hits him with a Zig Zag as he started to climb. Show tries to climb but Kane pushes the ladder over, sending Show out of the ring. Chaos with a ton of people going up the ladder at once, and Kane starts chokeslamming people as Cody gets close. Kane tries to climb but Ziggler jumps on him with a sleeper. Everyone starts to throw ladders on top of Show, burying him under the pile. Kane tosses Dolph out, chokeslams Kofi onto the pile of ladders, and then chases Cody up the ramp. Kane sends Cody head first into the back of an armored car set up beside the ramp/stage area. Hardy and Christian double powerbomb Kane off a ladder before climbing it. They fight at the top for a bit but eventually both of them fall off into the ropes. Drew tries for the win but Kane chokeslams him off the ladder and unhooks the case for the win. The amount of time this match got was stunning, clocking in at nearly a half hour. A very good opener that was a bit too long at times but still a really strong match. Wasn’t thrilled with Kane winning but at least it made sense. Match Time: 26:25 Match Rating: 7.5/10

2. Divas Championship: Alicia Fox(c) vs. Eve

This was a pretty by the books, humdrum Divas match. Fox and Eve lock up with Fox getting a takedown and keeping hold of the collar and elbow. Eve gets control with a side headlock and goes for some covers before hitting a dropkick. Eve tries for a tornado DDT but Alicia sends her to the mat. They fight on the outside with Eve getting slammed into the apron. Alicia goes for a quick cover in the ring but gets two. Fox is all over Eve, hitting a backbreaker and keeping Eve over her knee. Fox works the back with a submission but Eve hits a monkey flip. Eve hits a cross body and some dropkicks before connecting with a standing moonsault. Eve goes for a flipping senton off the top turnbuckle but Alicia gets the knees up and hits the Axe Kick for the win. Bland Divas match but they were put in a tough spot going on right after that opener. Match Time: 5:54 Match Rating: 3/10

3. Unified Tag Team Championship: The Hart Dynasty(c) vs. The Usos

This was a solid tag match but it definitely could have used more time and ended up coming off like a Raw match. Smith hits a powerslam to Jay right away before Kidd hits Jay with an aided hurricanrana. Jimmy gets a tag and pounds away at Smith before hitting a double team move with his partner. Jimmy is still all over Smith but Smith hits a back body drop and tags in Kidd. Kidd hits a dropkick and a ton of kicks in the corner. The Usos get a near fall after a double team following a blind tag. Jimmy tries for a top rope splash but Kidd avoids it and tags in Smith. Smith hits a shoulder block to Jay and Tamina distracts him, but Natalya scoop slams her on the outside. Kidd does a suicide dive onto Jimmy and Smith makes Jay tap out to the sharpshooter for the win. Decent tag match that suffered from a dead crowd and lack of time. Match Time: 5:54 Match Rating: 5/10

4. World Heavyweight Championship: Rey Mysterio(c) vs. Jack Swagger

This was a very good world title match that had really strong wrestling and brought back memories of Rey’s match with Kurt Angle back at SummerSlam 2002. Swagger and Rey lock up, with Swagger slamming Rey into the corner before Rey tries to come back with some kicks. Swagger gets a hold of Rey’s left ankle and tries for the Ankle Lock but Rey counters and teases the 619. Swagger hangs up Rey in the tree of woe and charges at him, but Rey sits up and Swagger goes into the post. Mysterio dives onto Swagger on the outside but once they get back in the ring Swagger hits a huge super belly to belly suplex. Swagger stomps at the Ankle before taking Rey to the outside and slamming him into the announce table. Swagger wrenches at the leg back in the ring, with Rey eventually retaliating with some kicks. Swagger hits a botched powerslam and attempts a Vader Bomb, but Rey avoids it and scores with a kick. Mysterio sends Swagger into the corner and hits a split legged moonsault once Swagger goes down. Swagger comes back with a wheelbarrow suplex and hits the gutwrench powerbomb, but Rey gets his foot on the bottom rope. Mysterio hits a big hurricanrana and goes up top. Swagger follows and tries for a super powerslam, but Mysterio counters with a crazy tornado DDT off the top for a near fall. Rey hits the 619 but Swagger blocks the seated senton and puts on the Ankle Lock. Rey makes it to the ropes but Swagger hits 2 Vader Bombs. Swagger goes for the Ankle Lock again but Rey loosens his boot (in a nod to Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle from Wrestlemania 20) and the shoe comes off. He then rolls up Swagger to retain the title. Very good world title match, only issue was the lack of proper time for this sort of match. Match Time: 10:44 Match Rating: 7/10

After the bell, Swagger attacked Rey, but Kane made the save, chasing Swagger to the back. Kane’s music then hit, and he returned with a referee and his newly won briefcase. This led to…..

5. World Heavyweight Championship: Rey Mysterio(c) vs. Kane

So Kane cashes in his briefcase the night of, and here we go. Kane goes after the ankle and slams it into the canvas, then hits a chokeslam and a tombstone to win the world title. I guess this means we will get Kane vs. Undertaker for the title at SummerSlam. I’m not thrilled about Kane but at least this sort of made sense. Match Time: 0:54 Match Rating: N/A

6. Women’s Championship: Layla(c) vs. Kelly Kelly

And here we go with our second women’s match of the night. The first was tolerable, this was not. They lock up before Kelly hits a Thesz press and slams Layla into the corner a bunch of times. Layla fights off a handspring splash but Kelly kicks her to the outside. Layla kicks away at Kelly’s leg before hitting a baseball slide that sends Kelly to the outside. Kelly knocks Michelle McCool off the barricade and hits a double shoulder block on her with Tiffany. Kelly hits the K2 to Layla but Layla gets her foot on the ropes. Kelly tries for a roll up but Layla sits down with one of her own for the one. This was a piece of crap and a waste of time. Match Time: 3:59 Match Rating: 2/10

7. Raw Money in the Bank Ladder match: Randy Orton vs. The Miz vs. Mark Henry vs. Ted DiBiase vs. John Morrison vs. Chris Jericho vs. Evan Bourne vs. Edge

This was a great ladder match and managed to outdo the opener. This was better paced and had better spots throughout. Edge slides a ladder into the ring as he comes down to the ring, but most people go after Henry once the bell rings. Henry eats a corner clothesline from Miz and a dropkick from Bourne. Edge tries to climb the ladder but Orton yanks him down and pulls him to the outside where he goes to work on him. Morrison hits a kick to DiBiase but DiBiase clotheslines him, resulting in Morrison landing on a ladder. DiBiase hits Orton with a ladder but Bourne dropkicks it into his chest. Miz and Jericho go at it in the ring before Henry throws a ladder into them. Henry then hits a stunning leaping body guillotine to Miz, who was hung up in the ropes. Bourne tries to climb a ladder but stops to dropkick Jericho. He resumes climbing but drops down to hit a hurricanrana to Edge, sending him to the outside. Orton comes in and hits the spike DDT to Bourne, hanging Bourne’s feet on the rungs. Miz and DiBiase then go to work on Morrison, but Morrison sends both men into a ladder in the corner, hitting a flapjack to Miz and a drop toehold to DiBiase. Morrison, Edge, Jericho, and Orton fight separately atop two ladders but Henry shoves both of them over, only to be met with the diving knees from Bourne. In a comedy spot, Maryse climbs a ladder in the ring after checking on DiBiase. Morrison pulls her down and tells her to leave as Ted tries to sneak up the ladder. Morrison and DiBiase fight and spill to the outside, with Miz slamming Morrison into the barricade and catapulting Morrison into a ladder propped up against the ring post.

Morrison lands on his feet and uses another ladder to swing over to the ladder Edge is on in the middle of the ring. Morrison gets trapped horizontally inside the ladder, with Miz and Edge sliding another ladder through the rungs and slamming it onto Morrison. Edge turns on Miz and pushes the ladder over, sending Morrison into the corner. DiBiase goes for the case but stops to attempt a dive on Henry. Henry catches him and puts him down with a World’s Strongest Slam. On the outside, Henry gets hit with a Codebreaker from Jericho and a spear from Edge. A strange structure of ladders (one ladder leaning against an opened upside down ladder against a normal ladder) is then ascended by Miz, Morrison, Jericho, and Orton. DiBiase pulls down Miz, who falls face first into another propped up ladder. DiBiase falls on that flat ladder, which Edge and Orton then slide out of the ring with DiBiase on it. Orton hits Edge with an RKO but just as he hits the mat, Bourne hits him with a Shooting Star press. Bourne and Jericho fight atop the ladder, with Jericho hitting Bourne in the face with the briefcase and sending him to the mat. Jericho and Edge then trade punches at the top, and Edge gets the upper hand, knocking Jericho down. On Jericho’s way down, Orton strikes with a crazy mid air RKO. Orton then climbs the ladder and sends Edge into the upside down ladder. Miz pushes over the ladder Orton is on, rights it, then climbs up to unhook the case and win the match. They really put over Miz here and made it seem like a huge moment. He was very emotional and cut a nice promo after winning. Another lengthy Money in the Bank match that delivered and was flat out awesome (no pun intended!). Match Time: 20:34 Match Rating: 8/10

8. Steel Cage match for the WWE Championship: Sheamus(c) vs. John Cena

This was a pretty average, solid main event from these two but was completely overshadowed by the other world title match and the ladder matches which preceded it. The cage was seemingly there to prevent this from happening but that only helps when the cage is actually used throughout the match. Sheamus tries to send Cena into the cage in the opening minute but Cena blocks and they lock up. Sheamus takes down Cena and goes to work in the corner. Cena comes back with a clothesline but Sheamus sends him face first into the cage. Cena comes back with some punches but Sheamus hits a huge running knee to the head. Cena ends up against the cage and Sheamus grinds his face against the wall. Sheamus with a knee drop but Cena hits a suplex out of nowhere. They trade punches before Cena hits a flying shoulder block, but flies into the cage when he attempts a second one. Sheamus hits a reverse DDT backbreaker and tries for an escape but Cena stops him. They fight on the top rope and slide over into the corner, where Sheamus hits a superplex. Cena tries for the Attitude Adjustment but Sheamus counters and hits a DDT. He hits some clubbing blows for near falls before locking in a sleeper. Sheamus puts on a body scissors to complement the sleeper, but Cena is able to get to his feet and starts to climb the turnbuckles with Sheamus on his back, but Sheamus drops down and crotches Cena in the corner. Sheamus tries to climb out but Cena pulls him down just as Sheamus starts to go over the top.

Cena hits his shoulder blocks, the spin out powerbomb, and the Five Knuckle Shuffle, but when he tries for the AA, Sheamus grabs the cage and tries to escape. Cena stops him and they fight on the top rope, with Cena slamming Sheamus into the cage. Sheamus falls to the mat and Cena tries for a top rope Five Knuckle Shuffle, but Sheamus avoids it. Sheamus ties Cena up in the ropes and tries to escape, but Cena breaks free and they fight on the top rope yet again, culminating with Cena hitting a bulldog off the top turnbuckle. Sheamus counters the AA again and hits the uranage backbreaker. Sheamus hits the bicycle kick for a near fall, followed soon after by Cena hitting the AA for two. The Nexus then come down the ramp, with Tarver holding bolt cutters. A referee nabs the bolt cutters and runs to the back with them. Nexus then demand one of the refs hand over the key to the cage, but the ref throws it into the audience. Back in the ring, Sheamus shoves Cena into the ref, who goes down as the Nexus corner the outside referee. Cena makes Sheamus tap to the STF but there’s no ref to see it. Cena tries to escape but the Nexus start to climb the side of the cage. Justin Gabriel fights with Cena at the top but Cena shoves him off the top of the cage into the ring. As Cena is held up by all the Nexus, Sheamus attempts an escape on the other side. Heath Slater tries to stop Sheamus but Sheamus fends him off and gets to the floor first to retain the title. After the match Sheamus hightailed it, and Cena threw Darren Young into the side of the cage before tossing the ring steps into Michael Tarver’s face. Cena takes Tarver’s arm band with him as he walks up the ramp to end the show. Good main event but it wasn’t that special at all. Fine storyline progression with the Nexus and it will be interesting to see where they go from here. We could be headed for a blow off at SummerSlam but it’s unclear at this point. Match Time: 23:07 Match Rating: 6.5/10

Overall PPV Rating: 8/10

By Jared Silberkleit - Over the Limit was one of the worst WWE PPVs in years. A pretty good main event was the only thing saving this show from entering the territory of potential being a very bad show. Almost the entire show under delivered and even the two best matches had things about them that will surely irk the fans. This is certainly one show I am glad I didn’t spend my money on.

1. Intercontinental Championship: Drew McIntyre(c) vs. Kofi Kingston

The show opened with the Intercontinental title match. This was pretty short, but it was a fun, decent match to start things off. Kofi is all over Drew in the early going with some forearm shots and a few kicks before clotheslining Drew over the top rope to the floor. Kofi hits a suicide dive through the ropes and McIntyre returns to the ring, but Kofi hits a jumping lariat. Drew bails to the outside and Kofi follows, but Drew sends him into the ring post before the match returns to the ring. Drew pounds on Kofi in the corner before hitting an interesting, modified gutbuster and putting on a rear chin lock. Kofi is eventually up to his feet and breaks the hold with a hip toss. Kofi hits a couple punches but Drew gets a big kick for a near fall. Drew beats on Kofi’s head and jumps off the middle rope, but Kofi gets his feet up and hits McIntyre in the face. After a slugfest, Kofi sends McIntyre into the corner where he hits some mounted punches before diving off the top rope with a cross body for a near fall. McIntyre hits a gutbuster but Kofi sends him into the post before setting him up on the bottom ropes in the corner for a unique Boom Drop. Kofi tries for the Trouble in Paradise but Drew ducks it and tries for the Future Shock DDT. Kofi counters with the SOS for the victory and wins the title. Drew called out Teddy Long on the mic after but Matt Hardy came out and hit the Twist of Fate on Drew. Brief but enjoyable opener. Match Time: 6:25 Match Rating: 5.5/10

2. R-Truth vs. Ted DiBiase

This was an okay match, but it probably belonged on Raw given how little time was allotted to other matches on the show. Ted sends R-Truth into the corner at the start and R-Truth goes for a punch but the ref breaks it up because DiBiase was inside the ropes. Ted gets a side headlock and starts to work the arm but R-Truth fights out. Both guys slap each other across the face before R-Truth begins the beat down on Ted. He kicks him in the head and clotheslines him to the outside before slapping him and sending him back in. A Virgil distraction allows Ted to hit a neckbreaker and toss R-Truth to the outside. Ted slams him into the barricade before sending him back in the ring. After a bit of back and forth offense between the two, Ted hits a clothesline and puts on a chin lock. R-Truth gets up but Ted hits a back suplex. DiBiase goes to the second rope and tries for a double sledge but R-Truth catches him with a punch before trying for a superplex. Ted fends it off but R-Truth hits the ropes and Ted crotches himself. More quick offense from R-Truth and a hip toss, but when he tries for the Axe Kick, Ted counters with an electric chair for a near fall. R-Truth comes back and hits a suplex into a stunner for a 2 count before hitting the Lie Detector for the win. Just alright match, didn’t belong on the PPV. Match Time: 7:47 Match Rating: 5/10

3. Hair vs. S.E.S. Pledge match: CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio

If Rey lost, he would join the Straightedge Society, and if Punk lost he would get his head shaved. This was a very good match but was hampered from being great by a blood spot and some wacky overbooking at the end. Punk catches Mysterio off guard with a kick and lands more once he sends Rey into the corner. Mysterio comes back with some punches but Punk turns it back around. Rey lands a kick to the chest but Punk back body drops him over the top rope. Punk tries for an outside dive but Rey moves and he crashes to the ground. Rey then dives outside the ring with a headscissors sending Punk hard into the ring barricade headfirst, resulting in Punk getting busted open hard way. They continue to fight with Rey rubbing Punk’s face on the barber chair. Rey tries for a 619 back in the ring but Punk moves and hits a kick before sending Rey out of the ring into the barber chair. The ref then calls for a trainer to come in the ring to clean up Punk’s cut and this takes FOREVER. WWE really needs to just let it go if someone gets busted open hard way. Putting a match on pause for a blood spot is inexcusable and takes all the heat and momentum away from the match. Anyway, once this is done with, Punk hits a baseball slide to send Rey to the outside before slamming him into the barricade and hitting a suplex. The action returns to the ring where Punk wraps his legs around Rey’s head and neck. Rey fights out with some kicks and a roll-up before Punk hits a lariat for a near fall. Punk hits some fist drops, but when he charges Rey in the corner he gets hit with a sunset flip powerbomb for a near fall. Both men slug it out on their knees and Rey hits a springboard cross body after for a 2 count. Rey hits a pair of sentons for yet another near fall, but Punk sends a charging Rey face first into the corner. Punk hits a running knee but Rey counters the bulldog attempt by sending him into the ropes. Punk counters the 619 and hits a double underhook backbreaker. He tries for the Go to Sleep, and Rey tries to counter with a hurricanrana, but Punk counters that with a corner powerbomb. Punk dives off the top rope with a bulldog for another 2 count. Punk hits some strikes before connecting with a huge roundhouse kick. He tries for the GTS but Rey counters and hits the 619. Punk avoids the splash and smiles, but Rey gets a crucifix roll-up out of nowhere for the win. After the match there was a crazy sequence with the S.E.S. and the masked man beating up Rey before Kane made the save and Rey shaved Punk’s head. The match was very good but would have been better without that after the bell stuff and of course the blood clean up nonsense. The PG thing has gone too far. Match Time: 13:52 Match Rating: 7/10

4. WWE Unified Tag Team Championship: The Hart Dynasty(c) vs. Chris Jericho and The Miz

Now this is a feud that could really elevate the prestige of WWE’s tag titles and the tag division itself. These teams work so well together it’s not even funny. Miz stomps Tyson Kidd at the start but gets caught with a few kicks before David Hart Smith gets the tag. Smith hits a stalling vertical suplex before back dropping Miz to the outside. Smith then gorilla press drops Kidd onto Miz and Jericho outside the ring. Miz fights out of a submission back in the ring and tags in Jericho, who has a back body drop attempt countered and gets hit with a bunch of kicks before falling to a double team move from the Hart Dynasty as Smith tags in. Jericho distracts the ref allowing Miz to cheap shot Smith. Jericho hits a belly to back suplex and puts on a chin lock but Smith fights out. Smith hits a side slam before Jericho is able to tag in Miz. Miz lands a ton of punches before putting on a chin lock but Smith again fights out and hits an electric chair. Both men tag in their partners and Kidd hits a flying elbow and a dropkick before hitting a series of kicks. Kidd tries for a roll-up and then a hurricanrana but has it countered into the Walls of Jericho. Kidd makes it to the ropes and bails to the apron. Kidd springs off the ropes but Jericho hits a mid-air Codebreaker before crawling over for a 2 count. Jericho argues with the ref, allowing Kidd to hit a kick and tag in Smith. Smith lands a ton of offense including a back suplex and a powerslam to Jericho. He tries for a running powerslam but Jericho counters by sending Smith into the ropes and getting a near fall with a small package. Natalya trips up Jericho allowing Smith to hit a powerslam. Miz gets a blind tag and hits the Mizard of Oz for another 2 count. He tries to lock in the Sharpshooter but Smith counters with a small package for a near fall. Smith fights out of the Skull-Crushing Finale, leading to some roll-up attempts. Miz hits the corner clothesline, but Smith holds on and carries Miz into the center of the ring, allowing Kidd to come in for the Hart Attack and the champions retain. Very good tag team match, but a bit too short. Match Time: 10:19 Match Rating: 6.5/10

5. Edge vs. Randy Orton

Here is where things got downright ugly for this show. The heavily hyped Edge/Orton matchup was a complete flop. Orton slingshots Edge into the ropes at the start and Edge bails to the outside. Edge sends him into the barricade and suplexes him before sending him back into the ring. The ref calls for a break after Edge stomps away at Orton in the corner. Orton tries to fight back but Edge puts him down and puts on a body scissors that he holds for some time. Edge adds to it with a chin lock but Orton fights out of that. Orton eventually elbows Edge in the face to break the body scissors. Edge suplexes Orton into the top rope and goes up top but Orton lands a punch. He tries for a superplex and Edge sends him to the mat, but Orton gets up, crotches Edge, and hits the superplex. After they trade punches, Orton hits a couple clotheslines and a powerslam for a near fall. Edge comes back with a big boot and Orton bails to the apron. Edge tries for a spear but Orton blocks and goes back into the ring to hit the spike DDT to Edge. Edge bails to the outside after a cover before dropping Orton throat first on the ropes. Orton blocks a spear with a big kick but apparently hurts his arm when he pounds on the mat to get set for the RKO. Orton subtly notifies the ref and Edge of this. They fight outside the ring with Edge beating on Orton, but he crashes into the barricade when he tries for a spear. The ref counts to 10 and it’s a no contest. Although the injury was accidental and hurt the match, they still wrestled a decent-length match prior to the injury that was incredibly boring and lackluster. Match Time: 12:48 Match Rating: 4/10

6. World Heavyweight Championship: Jack Swagger(c) vs. Big Show

After what happened with the Edge/Orton match, this next match just spit in the face of the fans and made everyone who ordered this show look like a fool. Swagger tries for a couple leg takedowns at the start but Show easily blocks. Swagger tries for a belly to back suplex but Show hits one of his own and Swagger goes to the outside. Swagger comes back in where Show hits a big boot and chops Swagger in the corner. Show walks across Swagger’s front and then his back before choking him and trying for a chokeslam. Swagger fights out and rolls to the outside before hanging up Show on the ropes. Swagger goes back inside and dives at Show’s legs before hitting a shoulder block. Swagger hits 2 consecutive Vader bombs, but when he tries for the pin Show kicks out and launches him through the ropes and out of the ring. Swagger tries for a face lock but Show hits some punches, a splash, and a shoulder block. Swagger blocks a chokeslam attempt but Show sends him over the ropes. Swagger grabs the belt and clocks Show with it and we get a DQ. Seriously? Swagger hits Show with the belt again and beats him with a chair but Big Show no sells it and comes back. He beats Swagger with the chair, chokeslams him on it, and hits the Knockout Punch. The match was actually going along decently before this horrendous, premature ending. Just horrible. Match Time: 5:06 Match Rating: 3/10

7. Divas Championship: Eve(c) vs. Maryse

As if this match made things any better on this show. Maryse lands some kicks and slams Eve face first into the mat before putting on a rear chin lock and sitting on Eve’s back. Eve gets up but Maryse puts her back down and puts her knee into Eve’s back. They move to the outside where Maryse tries for a kick but connects with the post. Back in the ring Eve hits a few dropkicks before Maryse slaps her. Eve responds by taking her down and hitting a standing moonsault. Eve gets a sunset flip for a near fall but Maryse gets one herself after a boot to the face. Eve hits a reverse STO but Maryse comes up with a weird counter to a front flip senton. Maryse tries for the DDT but Eve traps her leg between her knees and drops to her knees on the mat, and then gets a pin for the win. Typical Diva fare, not very good at all. Match Time: 5:03 Match Rating: 3/10

8. I Quit match for the WWE Championship: John Cena(c) vs. Batista

This was a pretty good I Quit match but not nearly as violent or destructive as their Last Man Standing match from the last PPV. Batista offers Cena the chance to quit at the start and Cena refuses, clocking Batista with the mic and sending him to the outside. He tries to hit Batista with a chair but misses and connects with the ring post. In the ring, Batista hits a huge clothesline before irish whipping Cena hard into the corner. He hits a snapmare and a kick to the face before pounding on Cena in the corner. Batista sends him to the apron and hits a knee, sending Cena into the ring barricade. Batista slams him into the barricade and puts him back inside and hits a big suplex. Cena avoids a corner splash and hits a couple shoulder blocks followed by the spin out powerbomb. He tries for the Attitude Adjustment but Batista holds onto the ropes before using the ref as a shield. Batista spears Cena and puts on his new modified bow and arrow submission. Cena refuses to quit and gets up, takes Batista down, and puts on the STF. Batista gets to the ropes but doesn’t get a break and passes out, preventing him from being able to verbally quit. Cena gets a water bottle and dumps it on Batista’s head to wake him up. Batista refuses to quit and hits a charging Cena with a spinebuster and then a Batista Bomb. Cena doesn’t quit and Batista goes to the outside, tearing apart the announce tables. He tries to Batista Bomb Cena on the Spanish table, Cena counters with an AA attempt, but Batista hits a running powerslam off the Spanish table through the other one. Unfortunately Cena gets busted open and the match is put on pause for Cena to be cleaned up (this is unreasonable; Cena literally had a tiny scratch that left a very thin line of blood). As if this was not bad enough when it happened to Punk. This is an I Quit match for God’s sake. Once he’s patched up, Batista sends him over the barricade and they brawl through the crowd. Cena is sent into a wall before they climb a set of stairs. Batista threatens to send Cena over the railing if he doesn’t quit, but Cena says no. Batista tries for a Batista Bomb but Cena fights out and sends him over the railing. Batista hangs on but after a couple punches he falls off into a bunch of security guards. Still, he refuses to quit. They continue to fight through the crowd and make their way across the entrance ramp and into an area near the side of the stage. Batista gets a hold of a chair and wails away at Cena as he crawls up the stairs at the side of the stage. Cena refuses to quit and is left lying in between a car and the stage lights. Batista gets in the car and seemingly backs up into Cena and through the stage, causing an explosion, even though we couldn’t see anything. Cena suddenly pops up and slams Batista repeatedly on the car before hitting an AA onto the hood. Batista doesn’t quit, and Cena says he hoped he’d say that. Cena puts Batista on his shoulders for the AA and stands on the roof of the car. Batista quits, but Cena hits the AA off the car through the entrance ramp. Cena celebrates his win but Sheamus then comes out and hits a bicycle kick to Cena. This was a very good main event, certainly the best WWE I Quit match in years, but when the PPV went off the air at 10:42, there was enough time left to make this much better. All in all even though it was the match of the night, it couldn’t save this train wreck show. Match Time: 20:37 Match Rating: 7.5/10

Overall PPV Rating: 5.75/10

ECW is in the books and went out in style with an Extreme Rules match that resulted in Ezekiel Jackson winning the strap from Christian, but the highlight of the evening was the staggered announcements of who will be a part of the roster when WWE NXT begins on February 23 on ScyFy.

The show has been described as a “hybrid live event/reality show,” according to the official WWE website and will feature eight established superstars and their charges – a group of young and hungry up and comers from Florida Championship Wrestling, the breeding ground for WWE. The competition will pit the rookies against one another with the survivor receiving a WWE contract.

Here are the tandems, as announced on the final ECW televised broadcast:

Chris Jericho – Wade Barrett

Matt Hardy – Justin Grabel

MVP – Skip Sheffield

Carlito – Michael tarver

The Miz – Daniel Bryan

Christian – Heath Slater

CM Punk – Darren Young

R. Truth – David Otunga

The show has been called “The next evolution of the WWE” by Vince McMahon and it appears that the company will be exploring new ground by adding the reality element. The set-up sounds similar to the UFC’s “Ultimate Fighter” reality series, which has two teams of eight MMA fighters coached by pros and the final contestant receives a six-figure fight contract. By mixing elements of such a successful show with their own special form of sports entertainment, it will be interesting to see the outcome.

As far as the superstars themselves, the braintrust at Titan Tower strategically placed a few headliners such as Jericho and Punk and mixed in midcarders like Hardy and Truth. Two of the more intriguing names are The Miz and Christian. The former holds three current belts,as one half of the unified tag team champions with The Big Show and the US title. Christian was the longest reigning champion of any of the three brands before being pinned by Jackson.

One question that has not yet been asked or answered is if these eight superstars will be able to compete on Raw, Smackdown or Superstars.

By Jared Silberkleit - Going into the show with a card looking very similar to that of last year’s edition, Survivor Series 2009 can best be described as what the 2008 show should have been. Thanks to both world title matches delivering and some traditional Survivor Series elimination matches that succeeded in putting over young talent, Survivor Series ended up being WWE’s second best PPV of the year when the night concluded.

1. Survivor Series Elimination match: Team Morrison (John Morrison, Matt Hardy, Evan Bourne, Finlay, and Shelton Benjamin) vs. Team Miz (The Miz, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus)

The night kicked off with the first Survivor Series elimination match as Team Morrison took on Team Miz. While it ran a bit too long and wasn’t the greatest match of its kind, it was still a fun opener. In the first few minutes, Bourne was mostly getting worked over by Swagger and Ziggler but gets the hot tag to Matt Hardy. Hardy and Bourne hit simultaneous second rope elbows to Ziggler’s head before Hardy connects with a Side Effect. Bourne hits a Shooting Star Press and eliminates Ziggler but afterward is instantly hit with a double arm DDT from McIntyre and eliminated. A couple minutes later Sheamus hits a big boot to Finlay to quickly eliminate him after a long staredown. Hardy then gets worked over for a little while by all of Team Miz before getting the hot tag to Morrison. Morrison hits a springboard enzuigiri to Swagger but the attempted pin is broken up. He shortly after hits Starship Pain to eliminate Swagger. Miz and Morrison go at it for a bit with Miz hitting a top rope double ax handle, but Shelton Benjamin gets tagged in. Benjamin hits Miz with a flurry of high flying offense and a couple suplexes, but is eliminated following a headbutt from Sheamus and a Skull-Crushing Finale from Miz. Hardy then fights with McIntyre and hits a second rope leg drop for a near fall, but gets eliminated after he misses a moonsault and McIntyre hits his double arm DDT. Morrison then does some back and forth with Sheamus for a while, but McIntyre and Miz beat on Morrison for a little while the ref’s back was turned. Morrison goes for his springboard enzuigiri but Sheamus counters with a kick. Sheamus then hits his running powerbomb on Morrison and Team Miz picks up the win, with Miz, McIntyre, and Sheamus being the survivors. This was a very good opener and did a great job establishing Sheamus and McIntyre, who needed this win badly. Match Time: 20:55 Match Rating: 6.5/10

2. Batista vs. Rey Mysterio

After all of the hype, this was pretty much just a squash match. It was pretty entertaining for a Batista match but it was far too short. This match served its purpose to establish Batista as a monster heel, but it wasn’t what WWE would have hoped as Survivor Series took place in Batista’s hometown of Washington D.C., where he is always cheered. Mysterio is able to get some offense early on with a bunch of kicks but Batista rebounds with a big lariat. Mysterio gets momentum again and goes for the 619 but Batista blocks it. Batista goes for the Batista Bomb but Rey counters with a hurricanrana that sends Batista outside the ring and then hits a baseball slide to send Batista into the ring barricade. Mysterio hits the 619 and a seated senton before going for a frog splash, but Batista blocks it and then hits a spear. Batista then hits a spinebuster before hitting 3 consecutive Batista Bombs, causing the ref to stop the match and award Batista the win. After the match Batista gave Rey a spinebuster on a chair. This was a solid match but I just wish it had gone longer. Match Time: 6:49 Match Rating: 5/10

3. Survivor Series Elimination match: Team Orton (Randy Orton, Legacy, CM Punk, and William Regal) vs. Team Kingston (Kofi Kingston, Christian, R-Truth, MVP and Mark Henry)

This was definitely the best Survivor Series elimination match of the night and the best match of its kind since Team Orton vs. Team Triple H back in 2004. Henry is thankfully quickly eliminated within the first minute after an RKO from Orton. A couple minutes later, R-Truth is distracted and falls victim to a Go to Sleep from Punk and is eliminated. DiBiase then went to work on Christian by hitting a top rope double stomp and a scoop slam. Both men went for their finishers and were denied, but Christian leaps off the top rope into a modified sunset flip powerbomb to eliminate DiBiase. Regal enters and starts brawling with Christian, who quickly gets the tag to Kingston. Regal this Kingston with an exploder suplex but MVP comes out of nowhere with the Drive-By kick to eliminate Regal. Rhodes goes to work on Christian, locking in a couple body-scissors, but Christian fights out and tags in MVP, who hits a series of clotheslines and an elbow drop. MVP is then distracted by Orton, allowing Rhodes to hit Cross Rhodes and eliminate him. Christian soon after hits the Killswitch to Rhodes for another elimination and it is now 2 on 2. Christian and Orton do some great back and forth for a while before Christian counters the RKO with a Killswitch, but the pin is broken up by Punk. Christian charges Orton in the corner, but hits the ringpost and is then caught with an RKO and is eliminated.Kingston and Punk then go at it, with both men trying for their finishers before Punk takes control with leg locks on Kingston’s neck and midsection. Kingston goes for a splash but Punk moves out of the way before hitting a Falcon Arrow for a near fall. Both men fight on the top rope and Kingston is able to knock Punk off and connects with a huge cross body for a near fall. Punk tries for a victory roll on Kingston, but Kofi counters it into a roll-up of his own and Punk is out. Orton then charges the ring and is immediately caught with the Trouble in Paradise and Kingston wins! Kingston is the sole survivor and becomes elevated to main event status with this huge victory. This was a very good Survivor Series elimination match, mostly due to the great chemistry between Kingston and Punk. Match Time: 20:50 Match Rating: 7.5/10

4. World Heavyweight Championship: Undertaker(c) vs. Chris Jericho vs. The Big Show

Many people were unsure of this match going in, but this ended up overdelivering and was a very enjoyable world title match. Jericho and Big Show team up against Undertaker in the early going, but thankfully this only lasts for a few minutes. Jericho hits Taker in the head with a mic outside the ring but Taker fights back by driving Big Show into the ring post and hits Jericho with a big right hand as Jericho tried for a move off the top turnbuckle. Taker tries for Old School but Jericho trips him up on the top rope and soon puts on the Walls of Jericho. Big Show reenters the match and chokeslams Jericho. He tries to chokeslam Taker, but Taker counters with a DDT. Jericho tries for a pin on each man but is unsuccessful. Taker and Big Show both try for a chokeslam, but Jericho smashes Show in the head with the world title belt. Taker hits a big boot and tries for the Last Ride, but Jericho has the belt again and hits Taker in the head. Jericho tries for a Tombstone and taker counter swith an attempt of his own, but Show catches both guys with Knockout punches. He tries to chokeslam Taker, but Taker counters with Hell’s Gate and Big Show spits up some blood before submitting. Very entertaining title match that was much better than expected. Match Time: 13:39 Match Rating: 7/10

5. Divas Survivor Series Elimination match: Team Mickie (Mickie James, Melina, Kelly Kelly, Gail Kim, and Eve) vs. Team Michelle (Michelle McCool, Beth Phoenix, Alicia Fox, Layla and Jillian)

To provide a break in between the two title matches, we got the Divas Survivor Series elimination match. Much of the first half of the match consisted of very quick eliminations out of nowhere. Layla is out after a leg drop from Kelly and Gail is eliminated after a Faith Breaker from McCool. Eve hits a partially botched sunset flip on Jillian for an elimination as well. Phoenix then hits the Glam Slam on both Eve and Kelly to quickly dispose of them. Mickie enters and catches Beth with a crucifix roll-up for yet another elimination. All of these eliminations really did happen this quickly. Alicia hits a Northern Lights suplex, but Mickie hits a big splash and Fox is out. Mickie then did some good work with McCool for a bit, with McCool hitting a series of stomps and leg drops before Melina gets tagged in. Melina pounds on McCool before hitting a sunset flip and Team Mickie wins with the survivors being Mickie and Melina. The match got better once it was down to 2 on 2 but the first half was fairly sloppy. Match Time: 10:40 Match Rating: 4/10

6. WWE Championship: John Cena(c) vs. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels

The main event started off with a bang with Michaels hitting Sweet Chin Music on his DX partner Triple H just after the bell. Michaels and Cena did some great back and forth work for a bit culminating in Michaels leaping over the ropes with a cross body on Cena on the outside. Cena goes for the Attitude Adjustment, but Triple H is back up and breaks it up. Triple H then hits a spinebuster to Michaels through the announce table. Triple H then goes to work on Cena in the ring, hitting a spinebuster and neckbreaker for a near fall. He goes for the Pedigree, but Cena catapults him into the corner. Cena hits his series of moves on Triple H and the Five Knuckle Shuffle, but HBK breaks up an AA attempt by sending Cena into the ringpost. Triple H and HBK then duke it out in the ring, with Michaels hitting some chops and atomic drops before Triple H comes back with a high knee and a facebuster. Michaels hits his flying forearm, but kips up right into a spinebuster from Triple H. Michaels goes for a flying elbow on Triple H, but Cena crotches him on the turnbuckle. Cena tries for his top rope leg drop, but Triple H moves out of the way. HBK then hits the elbow on Cena but is sent to the outside by Triple H. Cena puts the STF on Triple H, but HBK breaks it up by putting the Crippler Crossface on Cena. Cena fights out and puts on the STF but Michaels reaches the ropes. HBK hits Sweet Chin Music on both of his opponents before collapsing, but Triple H falls on Cena for a near fall. Cena catches Triple H with the AA but can’t initially make the cover. Minutes later, a wild ending sequence ensues with everyone trying to hit their finisher. Michaels hits Sweet Chin Music on Triple H, but Cena hits the AA to HBK on top of Triple H before covering The Game for the win. A great main event to close out an excellent show. Match Time: 21:14 Match Rating: 8/10

Sometimes you get what you wish for, but regret it in the end. That may just be the case this Tuesday on WWE’s ECW when the brash Jack Swagger faces Matt Hardy for the championship. It all fell into place for the undefeated newcomer when on this past week’s show, he defeated Finlay and Hardy survived a non-title match with the World’s Strongest Man, Mark Henry.

ECW general manager Teddy Long granted Swagger’s wish and he will get his shot at glory. As far as entertainment purposes go, look for Swagger to either win the belt or come damn close, setting up a long and drawn out war between the two. It makes perfect sense, with no one else in the WWE-offshoot faction being worthy of the throne. Besides John Morrison and The Miz (the ECW Tag Team champions), who else is marketable enough to deserve the championship?
