Jones Beach Spotlight: Guest Judge Profile

Lidia Szczepanowski Goldsmith will be one of the guest judges on the panel during the 2009 Mr. & Mrs. Jones Beach USA contest.

The National Organization for Women’s Safety Awareness, Inc. (NOWSA) is pleased to announce that its founder and Executive Director has been selected as the New York State representative to the Mrs. International Pageant to be held in Chicago, IL in July 2009. Local Corporate Attorney Lidia Szczepanowski Goldsmith of Dix Hills, NY was crowned Mrs. New York International at a ceremony held in Sullivan County at the Villa Roma Resort & Conference Center in Callicoon, NY.

In November 2007, Lidia founded the NOWSA, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation She established the organization to fulfill a fundamental need in our country to provide more information, awareness, and knowledge about women’s safety issues. NOWSA supports the work of many advocacy groups including those which educate the public about child abuse issues, domestic violence, and crimes against women in general.


Born and raised in Huntington, New York, Lidia earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Hofstra University in 1987 and received her Juris Doctor in 1990 from St. John’s University School of Law. Lidia is currently a Senior Litigation Attorney with the law firm of Thaler & Gertler, LLP, in East Meadow, New York where she practices in the areas of corporate and commercial litigation and bankruptcy.


Lidia holds a black belt in karate and currently studies mixed martial arts and the Russian martial art of Systema. She founded Stylish Safety Inc. which provides dynamic and highly motivational seminars designed to educate women with practical and effective defensive techniques that can be used in real life situations while building confidence and empowering women with a keen sense of assertiveness.

In May 2007, Stylish Safety, Inc. launched a nationwide campaign “Listen for the Whistle”, an innovative woman’s safety awareness program designed to benefit victims of crimes throughout the United States. The campaign advocates the notion that the sound of a whistle means that somebody nearby may need help and includes a “Diva’s Crystal Whistle,” a designer brass whistle bejeweled with genuine European crystals attached to a black leather cord. Lidia is in the process of building a multi faceted corporate enterprise Everything Lidia Inc. Lidia’s philosophy is to inspire and challenge women to live remarkable lives.


Lidia will represent the Empire State in the Mrs. International Pageant at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Chicago in July 2009. Each contestant competes in the Interview Competition, which is valued for 50% of her overall score, Evening Gown, valued for 25% and Fitness Wear for 25%. Each contestant has the opportunity to select a platform of her choice that she spends the year promoting. Husbands are a direct part of the show, escorting their wives in the Evening Gown competition and the husband crowns his wife titleholder.

Created 22 years ago, the focus behind Mrs. International® is to showcase women 21 to 56 years old, married at least six months and a resident of the state or a citizen of the country she represents. This is the premiere pageant for women around the world. It is a unique opportunity to work with their husbands and families while working with others to become positive role models.


Lidia currently resides on Long Island in Dix Hills with her husband and their three children. During her free time, Lidia enjoys dirt bike riding with her family, fitness training, playing tennis, skiing, windsurfing and boating.
