Griffith, a former NFL safety, is the defensive assistant coach of the California Redwoods of the new United Football League. In it’s inaugural season, the UFL is fielding four teams. Besides the California squad, there are the New York Sentinels, Florida Tuskers and Las Vegas Locomotives.
Each team will play at more than one home venue and the list includes Giants Stadium (New Jersey), James Schuart Stadium at Hofstra University (Long Island,New York), AT&T Park (San Francisco), the Citrus Bowl (Orlando), Home Depot Center (Los Angeles), Rentschler Field (Hartford), Sam Boyd Stadium (Las Vegas) and Tropicana Field (St. Petersburg).
As of this week, Florida was leading the way with a 3-0 record. Las Vegas (1-1), California (1-2) and New York (0-2) round out the rest of the league.
Griffith, 5’11” and 197 pounds, is a San Diego State alum and was voted to Sporting News 1st Team All-NFL and Associated Press 2nd Team All-NFL in 1998. A year later, he was recognized again by the Associated Press as a 2ns Team All-NFL player.
