Khan On The Fast Track To Stardom

Junior Welterweight champ, Amir Khan, is well on his way to being a star in the 140-pound division. Boxing fans know that one more win can get him on that lofty pedestal.

Khan has agreed to fight Paul McCloskey at MEN Arena in Manchester, which marks the first time in more than a year that the England native has fought on his home soil. If he disposes of McCloskey as most online betting experts expect, then Khan will set up a showdown with Timothy Bradley Jr.

If the bout between Khan and Bradley Jr. comes to fruition, it’s going to be the biggest in the 140-pound class in many years. It seems that negotiations for that bout have already got underway as HBO is reportedly looking for a date of July 30^th.

But first thing is first: Khan has to defeat McCloskey.

McCloskey is no slouch by any stretch as he is the current European champ. But there is still plenty of skepticism surrounding him. For starters, he won the vacant title by defeating Daniel Rasilla and then defending it twice versus Giuseppe Lauri and Barry Morrison. The problem for McCloskey is that Khan is a huge step up in competition in comparison to those three fighters. On top of that, Khan will have the crowd backing him up.

Khan will switch to acclaimed trainer Freddie Roach for this fight, which will only improve his chances. Roach is undoubtedly one of the best in the business and one of the best of all-time. He currently trains Manny Pacquaio and has previously trained Bernard Hopkins, Oscar De La Hoya and Mike Tyson.

For Khan, if he wins the next two fights he’ll be on top of the sport in his division. Even as of now, the peak of that mountain is very far off.
