Rashaad Mendenhall’s Bin Laden, 9/11 Twitter Comments Still Sting

A bullshit, half-assed “apology” notwithstanding, Rashaad Mendenhall still looks ignorant and flat-out wrong by making his Twitter comments following the death of Osama bin Laden. Sure, everyone is entitled to their opinion but someone in the public eye – like a professional athlete – has to deal with the expected fallout when taking such a controversial stand.

Here is what the Pittsburgh Steelers running back tweeted: “What kind of person celebrates death? It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side…”

Where do we start? Mendenhall is totally off base and incorrect with this comment. In case he needs reminder, there were a whole lot of folks jumping for joy when the World Trade Center was attacked. The evening news showed footage from the Arab world that was nearly as sickening as seeing the Twin Towers fall. And that is not racist, but merely fact.

And all of us have heard bin Laden speak via audio and video when he and his terrorist cronies released propaganda material. And it’s easy to HATE the son-of-a-bitch that caused so much sorrow worldwide, Rashaad. One side? Really could care less about ‘their’ side of the story.

If that wasn’t enough, Mendenhall followed that classic up with: “We’ll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style.” He sounds as logical as Jesse Ventura with the conspiracy theory alluding.

To make matters worse, the idiot then makes a feeble attempt at clarifying his comments after the shitstorm hit: “This controversial statement was something I said in response to the amount of joy in the event of a murder. I don’t believe that this is an issue of politics or American pride; but one of religion, morality, and human ethics.

“I wasn’t questioning bin Laden’s evil acts. I believe that he will have to face God for what he has done. I was reflecting on our own hypocrisy. During 9/11, we watched in horror as parts of the world celebrated death on our soil. Earlier this week, parts of the world watched us in horror celebrating a man’s death.”

Mendenhall contradicted himself on the death celebrating comments, but what did we expect? Not exactly the sharpest knife in drawer, he actually felt that he was making ground by calling this a ‘murder.’ Stop the holy roller bullshit, Rashaad. It is not called murder in war, but rather eliminating your enemy before he does the same to you.

And anyone who was ‘horrified’ by seeing Americans celebrating the death of bin Laden are in the same category as he was. They are not our friends, but rather part of the problem.

It also seems as if Mendenhall still believes that 9/11 was an inside job because he failed to mention anything about his earlier comments on that subject. Probably realizing that he stepped on his dick with that one, he actually went back and deleted it from his Twitter page.

That in itself shows the true character of this guy. Expect a lot of flak from the crowds around the league, Rashaad. You deserve it.
