UFC Fight Night 6/28 Preview: TUF 16 Winner Colton Smith vs. Carlos Ferreira
- Updated: June 19, 2014
|
Smith knows this is a make or break fight for him. As a result he has spent the last seven months honing his skills and improving his weaknesses, even training with the U.S. Olympic wrestling and boxing teams in Colorado Springs, CO earlier this year. “I’ve been very fortunate this training camp,” said Colton. “This is the first time I’ve had enough leave from the Army to have a full eight week training camp. I think that and the additional training I’ve been doing over the past seven months is going to make a huge difference in this fight.”
Carlos Ferreira, currently undefeated, has indicated that he knows Colton’s game and is coming prepared. A 3rd degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Ferreira believes Colton will come on strong and utilize his grappling. “I think you’re going to see a different side of me come next Saturday night,” said Colton. “I plan on getting rowdy Texas style.”
Smith who is based out of Fort Hood, TX requested to fight on the San Antonio card. “I wanted to fight in my home state,” said Colton. “I’ve been stationed in Texas for a couple of years now. My family is here. My brothers in arms are here. Everyone will be able to come to this fight. That means the world to me.”
Smith has been an Airborne Ranger Qualified Infantryman in the US Army for over seven years. He also served two tours overseas in Iraq. Smith is currently training at Jackson’s MMA.
Smith’s fight at UFC Fight Night will take place Saturday, June 28, 2014 in San Antonio, TX at the AT&T Center and will be aired live on Fox Sports 1. Follow Colton Smith on Facebook @ColtonSmithMMAFighterFanPage or on Twitter @coltonsmithmma.
