Striking Gold: 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick Trains Long & Hard
- Updated: November 27, 2014
There are times when you are the victim of your own success. To be the quarterback of one of the most storied franchises in the NFL and be a play away from a Super Bowl win and a berth in another the past two years makes you a marked man. But this is something that Colin Kaepernick welcomes, being up for the task at hand through intense preparation.
“Even during the season, I work out five days a week,” the young signal caller says. “Monday through Thursday. Saturdays our off day and we go play on Sunday.”
This what Kaepernick’s workout schedule look like:
*Monday – lower body
*Tuesday – upper body
*Wednesday – biceps, triceps, core (called “gun-showing core day” by Kaepernick)
*Thursday – lower body
*Friday – upper body
As far as cardio goes, the Nevada product concentrates more on position-specific drills. “I do a lot of bungees and chains and resistance drops,” says Kaepernick. “And a lot of ladders. I was even doing some track workouts for a while (during the offseason).”
Although he has had a good amount of success so far, Kaepernick believes that this is merely the tip of the iceberg and he has a lot more to accomplish before it’s all said and done.
“It’s something where I hope to get better every year,” he comments. “I hope I improve (each) year. I hope that I get to play in many more Super Bowls...and win many. The ultimate goal is to get to as many Super Bowls and to win as many as you can.”
At this rate, Kaepernick has a good chance to be in the conversation of the great quarterbacks in the franchise’s history, such as Joe Montana and Steve Young.
“I I get mentioned in the same breath as those guys, I’m doing well then.”
