EDITOR’S NOTE: MuscleSport Magazine is honored to present to you the first installment of a series we will be running by IFBB pro Helle Trevino. The female bodybuilder is in contest prep mode for the Wings of Strength Rising Phoenix Women’s Bodybuilding World Championship that will take place on September 10 in Arizona.
I’m 10 weeks out and have been working with Chris Aceto on nutrition and Chris Cormier for training and posing. I just handed in progress photos and Coach Aceto was very happy with my conditioning and said that I get bigger and leaner every time (every photo update). I’ve never been better. Bigger and rounder; more symmetrical standing at 5’5″ and 178 pounds at the moment.
My goal this season has been to bring up my back. When I placed secondnd last year at the Rising Phoenix (the new Ms. Olympia), the only comment I heard from the judges was that I needed to bring a bigger back. So bigger back it is! Training back twice a week and hitting it as hard as I can from every angle.
This will be an interesting year this year, perhaps the most interesting in a long time. In 2015, Iris Kyle decided to retire after winning the Ms Olympia an impressive 10 times. The runner-up in 2013-2014 Alina Popa tore her Achilles’ tendon AND her bicep tendon that same year and hasn’t competed since. BOTH women have decided to make a comeback in 2016.
The reigning champ and first Rising Phoenix winner Margie Martin and runner up – myself – will also attend this year’s show, along with thirrd place finisher Debi Laszewski, who has been in the third spot every year since 2013. In 2012, she even placed second. Not to mention former Ms. Olympia Yaxeni Oriquen. What does she have up her sleeve?
Several newbies have qualified, so who knows what could happen? The fourth qualifier will be (today) – the Chicago Pro. Let’s see who’s next up to qualify!
