GIVE US AN ‘A’ FOR EFFORT
“Both (sides) have to make an assessment on what is the best way to ‘fix’ what is broken,” we replied. “Tragedies on both sides have happened way too often since this has become a talking point. The double execution of the NYPD officers and the five in Dallas were ‘retaliatory.’”
Then Foster made a very puzzling statement of, “You’ll be opening the floodgates here, but what is the key for that? Education in these neighborhoods. What neighborhoods have the least amount of funding? Why is this? This country’s history is rooted in racism; it’s very covert nowadays but it’s still alive.”
It seems that every time we proposed something that would be of a positive nature to get this situation at least spoken about without an argument, Foster deflected.
Opening the floodgates by putting the onus on black people who have murdered police officers in cold blood due to a false narrative created by ‘witnesses’ lies and the media is exactly what needs to be done, depending on what Foster was referring to, of course.
Our response was “Not education/classes, but rather guys such as yourself and Colin to be open that there are problems on both sides of this. I had the pleasure of doing a one-on-one interview with Colin in 2013 and he was a total gentleman. So, I’m not speaking from a place of hate.”
The back-and-forth went a little further with little fanfare and it basically ended after Foster said that “we’re back to square one” after we pointed out the videos of black people cursing the police for no reason that was born from this division. Foster countering with “There’s a lot of videos of cops doing the same.”
One of our last messages to Foster was that we were moving in the right direction, we were not condoning bas behavior by the police and did not believe that he was condoning the reverse (unlawful behavior by blacks).
IN CONCLUSION
We did reach out to Foster on multiple occasion to pick up where we left off and that we were going to write a feature article on this and give him an opportunity to add to it. We did not receive a response.
So even though we came from completely different sides, there was a few moments when a black man and a white retired cop/current sportswriter weren’t arguing, but rather seeing the other’s point of view.
