FCFL to Announce Five More Team Owners and Fan Captains in the Coming Weeks

Culver City, CA (January 28, 2019) – The Fan Controlled Football League (FCFL), the first professional sports league where fans call the shots – from designing logos to calling plays in real-time – announced today that multi-platinum award-winning Latin superstar Prince Royce has joined the league as a team owner. He will also be serving as celebrity “Fan Captain” for his franchise.

Royce is the first team owner announced that is not from the sports world. FCFL had previously named NFL Super Bowl Champions Marshawn Lynch and Richard Sherman as team owners and the league will be announcing owners for the remaining five teams in the coming weeks.

When asked about why he became an owner in the FCFL, Prince Royce said “I’m a football fan and have always dreamt of owning a sports team – the fact that the FCFL combines sports with tech and gaming makes it the perfect league for me. I love everything about it, and it’s awesome that fans can really participate and be part of the game in a way they have never experienced before.”

The inaugural FCFL season kicks off in June 2019 with all eight teams based in a single location – so instead of rooting for their hometown franchise, FCFL fans will join a team led by their favorite team owner. In addition to Royce, Lynch and Sherman, the league’s remaining five teams will each also have an owner who serves as a Fan Captain, including personalities from the worlds of gaming, sports, music and entertainment, with a passion for football. The Fan Captains will work alongside their squad’s fans to create the brand, voice and personality of their respective teams, as well as helping their fans through key decisions like hiring (and firing) coaches, drafting players, and calling the plays in real-time.

FCFL Co-Founder and CEO, Sohrob Farudi, talked to Prince Royce’s fit with the FCFL, “Prince Royce is exactly the type of owner we are looking for in the FCFL. He is not only a mega star with a hugely engaged digital fan base, he’s also a passionate football fan and gamer. I’m excited to see how he and his fans shape his franchise over the coming months.”

The FCFL’s fast-paced, one-hour running clock, 7-on-7 games, will be played in a high-tech production studio equipped with drones, sensors and wearables with seating for a thousand fans, while streaming to millions in real time via the league’s exclusive multi-year streaming broadcast agreement with Twitch. Twitch will co-market the FCFL to its user base of over 140+ million monthly viewers. Using Twitch extensions, the FCFL has developed an interactive overlay for desktop and mobile, allowing fans to call the plays natively on top of the Twitch video player.

Next up for the league will be the announcements of: team owners / Fan Captains for each of the remaining five teams; a number of strategic alliances; and the launch of fan voting.
