YANKEES ACQUIRE OF MIKE TAUCHMAN FROM COLORADO

The New York Yankees announced today that they have acquired OF Mike Tauchman (TOCK-min) from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for LHP Phillip Diehl.

 

Tauchman, 28, made his Major League debut in 2017 and has hit .153 (9-for-59) with 7R, 1 double, 1 triple, 2RBI and 9BB in 52 career games with Colorado. The Palatine, Ill., native spent the majority of the 2018 season with Triple-A Albuquerque, batting .323/.408/.571 (130-for-403) with 84R, 26 doubles, 20HR and 81RBI in 112 games en route to being named to the Pacific League’s Mid-Season and Postseason All-Star teams.

 

Originally selected by the Rockies in the 10th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, Tauchman has played in 606 minor league games in his career, batting .304/.374/.450 (689-for-2,263) with 376R, 128 doubles, 35 triples, 44HR, 300RBI and 111SB. Over the last two seasons, he hit .327 (269-for-823) with 166R, 56 doubles, 15 triples, 36HR and 161RBI in 222 games with Triple-A Albuquerque.

 

Diehl, 24, attended spring training with the Yankees as a non-roster invitee, posting a 4.50 ERA (10.0IP, 5ER) with 17K in nine relief appearances. In 2018, he combined to go 2-3 with four saves, a 2.51 ERA (75.1IP, 21ER) and 108K in 39 relief outings with Single-A Tampa and Double-A Trenton. His 12.90 K/9.0IP ratio led all Yankees farmhands (min. 75.0IP). Diehl was originally selected by the Yankees in the 27th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft.

 

To make room on the 40-man roster for Tauchman, LHP Jordan Montgomery was placed on the 60-day injured list.
