The New York Yankees announced today that they have acquired OF Cameron Maybin from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for cash considerations.

Maybin, 32, batted .216 (11-for-51) with 4R, 3 doubles and 5RBI in 14 games with Triple-A Columbus this season.

A native of Asheville, N.C., Maybin is a career .254/.322/.368 (881-for-3,464) hitter with 498R, 148 doubles, 33 triples, 60HR, 315RBI, 328BB and 174SB (in 223 attempts) in 1,039 Major League games with the Tigers (2007, ’16), Marlins (2008-10, ‘18), Padres (2011-14), Braves (2015), Angels (2017), Astros (2017) and Mariners (2018).  He has appeared in all three outfield positions at the Major League level and owns a .988 career fielding percentage (2,313 TC, 27E).

He split the 2018 season between Miami and Seattle, combining to bat .249 (85-for-342) with 32R, 14 doubles, 4HR, 28RBI and 10SB in 129 games.  In 2017, he won a World Series title with the Astros, going 2-for-7 with 2R in six playoff games, his only career postseason experience.

Maybin made his Major League debut for Detroit against the Yankees at the original Yankee Stadium on August 17, 2007, starting in LF for the Tigers and going 0-for-4.  He collected his first career hit the following day with a single off Roger Clemens.  He hit his first home run off Clemens in the fifth inning of the game, marking the seventh time Clemens had surrendered a player’s first career home run (also Beau Allred, Sandy Martínez, Jon Rauch, Sammy Sosa, Pedro Swann and Robin Ventura).

He would become the fourth player since 2003 to hit his first career home run in the Bronx as a visitorbefore later playing for the Yankees, joining Chase Headley (original Yankee Stadium in 2008), Adeiny Hechavarria (current Yankee Stadium in 2012) and Didi Gregorius (current Yankee Stadium in 2013).

The right-handed hitter attended spring training as a non-roster invitee with San Francisco before being released by the Giants on March 22.  He signed a minor league contract with Cleveland on March 29.  He was signed to a Major League contract by the Yankees and added to the club’s 25-man roster.

To make room on the Yankees’ 40-man roster, RHP Luis Severino was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Maybin was originally selected by the Tigers in the first round (10th overall) of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft.  He would be the sixth player signed as a first-round pick to appear in a game for the Yankees this season, joining Clint Frazier, Aaron Judge, Adam Ottavino, CC Sabathia and Troy Tulowitzki.
