Survival Foods That Will Last 25+ Years and Still Taste Fresh

For many survival preppers, stockpiling the right kind of food is as important as survival itself. It is not so much about food variety when stocking for survival, rather, it is about having the kind of survival food that will last for years and still taste fresh.

While it may be hard to imagine a pack of food ready for consumption decades down the line, there are specific foods that have been created and packaged to weather time and still maintain freshness no matter how long they stay in the pantry.

These foods come in handy during disastrous periods. when there is a massive shortage of food. Needless to say, nothing beats enjoying a good meal with your family, no matter the conditions.

  • Uncooked white rice


Yes, we all love a plate of well-cooked rice. In fact, a majority of people in the world get on with a portion of white rice in their diets. When stored in an oxygen-free container, uncooked white rice will last between 25 to 30 years. 

If possible, purchase your white rice from a long-term food storage supplier because they are known for the best packaging and sealing of rice that will serve a long-term purpose. 

This is because the sealing is more reliable for longer storage in comparison to the sealing that comes with the rice that is purchased from ordinary grocery stores.


  • Dried beans


Dried beans are not only easy to cook but also have excellent nutritional value. When packaging is done correctly in an oxygen-free atmosphere, then beans retain their original freshness for up to 30 years. 

This is what makes dried beans an ideal emergency food. Keeping beans dry makes them indestructible for three decades.


  • Corn


It does not matter how you like your corn- with some pepper, roasted, boiled, ground into cornmeal or in popcorn kernels, this is a survival food that knows a shelf life of over 25 years. 

Provided your corn is free from moisture, it will not let you down two and a half decades down the line.


  • Potato flakes


By sealing your potato flakes in a dry container and storing them in a cool and dark place, they will still be fresh for consumption in 30 years to come. 

Remember, light speeds up the oxidation process for potatoes. This is why darker storage conditions are best.


  • Dry pasta


Did you know that dry pasta can last for up to thirty years? While the pasta that you purchase at the grocery store can still last up to two years after its ‘best by’ date, pasta that is sealed with oxygen absorbers will stand the test of time. 

To ensure that it maintains its freshness, it is best to purchase pasta from a long-lasting food supplier so that sealing is done accordingly.

  • Dehydrated carrots


Different vegetables come with different shelf lives. This entirely depends on the moisture content. Even so, when carrots are dehydrated properly, they can have a shelf-life of up to 25 years. 

Just like fruits, do not purchase dehydrated carrots that are available at the grocery store as their shelf life may be considerably lesser. 

Instead, dehydrate them at home to ensure the process is done right. Add an oxygen absorber and voila! Your carrots will still be fresh 25 years down the line.


  • Dehydrated fruits


Dehydration is the removal of moisture from food. By dehydrating fruits like apricots, apples and raisins then they will last for a period of 30 years. 

Granted, there are dehydrated fruits in the grocery store but the challenge that they present is that they are not completely dehydrated and moisture is often re-absorbed during the packaging process.

To enjoy fresh fruits decades down the line, it is best to dehydrate them at home (do it yourself) and then add an oxygen absorber. The trick to dehydrating the right way is to ensure that all moisture is removed from the fruits.
