In the Name of Bondage – Part 1

Anyone notice an upwards trend of BDSM in Hollywood flicks? Whether you are watching the Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy, 365 Days or older flicks, there’s something both sexy and terrifying about scenes of bondage. To be dominated while restrained; many people don’t necessarily want to entertain the idea. If it’s in some creepy dude’s cabin in the woods, the appeal might be to become the next missing person on  a milk carton in an episode of “Criminal Minds.” Or it’s simply some rich guy who likes to inflict pain for his pleasure

What about real people? Not on television or in a film. One reader months ago asked me on Instagram “Have you ever been tied up?” Honestly when writing this, yes, I have. I was 19 and a family friend wanted me to be married off as I had a suitor. Now I’m not knocking bondage, as I believe in sex positivity, but being tied up in front of my parents for my then-eligible suitor to see the sensitive and pleasurable parts of my body was NOT all that fun. What did I learn? Rope from a boat isn’t ideal; it chafes and burns like a motherfucker on gonorrhea. Don’t even get me started on how heavy it is and how it shifted my clothing as well.

Tying The Knot

You don’t have to be experienced to tie the knots, but you should get some guidance as to how to properly tie or bound someone. Now don’t go running to your garage in search of rope and start tying knots on your partner or tying them to the bed just yet. Although when they piss you off and sell some of your shit, or to get some peace and quiet to watch the game. There are some safety concerns with bondage that you have to adhere to or the person being tied can become injured.

My journey of bondage has begun as I’m learning to reconnect and become in touch with myself once again. This will be well documented. I want to educate many on bondage. There needs to be an understanding, as it is more about consent, respect, trust, connection, communication, vulnerability, pain and love. It has less to do with whipping, pain, brutality and control.

Stay tuned as I embark on this journey through the different roles.
