The Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC is one of the most famous and recognizable statues in the country and a wonderful sign of respect for our 16th president. But a closer look shows that there are not one, but two fasci as part of the memorial. On each side of the chair Lincoln is seated, the armrests are fasci, which was first adopted a sign of strength by the Roman Empire and was used by Benito Mussolini when he founded the Fascist Party in Italy in the 1920s.
