Brooklyn Dodgers Clinch Earliest Pennant – TDI Baseball 1953

Even though the then-regular season only consisted of 154 games, clinching a pennant this early in the month of September was quite the feat. Thus was the case back in 1953 when Carl Erskine led the Brooklyn Dodgers to a road win against the Milwaukee Braves. The victory at County Stadium put ‘Dem Bums’ up by 13 games in the National League over the second place Braves with only 12 to play. It was also the first time in Brooklyn team history that they won two consecutive pennants, something they would repeat in 1955 and 1956.

The sad part of this story is that the Dodgers went on to face their crosstown rivals the New York Yankees, who once again bested them in the Fall Classic for the fourth time since 1941. But come that 1955 season…
