Yankees Cut Clint Frazier

On Friday, the Yankees made the following roster moves:

 

  • Added INF Oswaldo Cabrera, RHP Ron Marinaccio, OF Everson Pereira, RHP Stephen Ridings and LHP JP Sears to the Major League roster.
  • Designated OF Clint Frazier, INF Rougned Odor and INF Tyler Wade for assignment.

 

Cabrera, 22, batted .272/.330/.533 (127-for-467) with 72R, 31 doubles, 2 triples, 29HR, 89RBI, 41BB and 21SB in 118 games for Double-A Somerset (109G) and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (9G) in 2021. He led all Yankees minor leaguers this season in RBI, ranked second in home runs and fifth in batting average. The switch-hitter also led the Double-A Northeast in hits (112), RBI (78), extra-base hits (54) and total bases (215), as well as ranking third in home runs (24), fourth in doubles (29) and fifth in stolen bases (20). Following the season, he was named the Double-A Northeast Most Valuable Player and a Postseason All-Star. He was also tabbed byBaseball America as the Yankees’ No. 8 prospect. In five minor league seasons (2016-19, ‘21), he has batted .262/.314/.403 (526-for-2,007) with 257R, 113 doubles, 8 triples, 51HR, 271RBI, 146BB and 50SB in 528 games. The Guarenas, Venezuela, native was signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2015.

 

Marinaccio, 26, split the 2021 season with Double-A Somerset (22G) and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (18G), combining to go 2-1 with five saves and a 2.04 ERA (66.1IP, 35H, 16R/15ER, 27BB, 105K, 4HR) in 40 relief appearances. Over four minor league seasons (2017-19, ’21), he has gone 5-3 with 18 saves and a 3.16 ERA (148.1IP, 106H, 59R/52ER, 57BB, 214K, 5HR) in 88 relief appearances. The Brick, N.J., native was originally selected by the Yankees in the 19th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Delaware.

 

Pereira, 20, hit .303/.398/.686 (57-for-188) with 47R, 10 doubles, 1 triple, 20HR, 57RBI, 28BB and 9SB in 49 games between the FCL Yankees (3G), Low-A Tampa (19G) and High-A Hudson Valley (27G) in 2021. Over three minor league seasons (2018-19, ‘21), the right-handed hitter has batted .266/.341/.499 (113-for-425) with 77R, 21 doubles, 3 triples, 24HR, 85RBI, 47BB and 15SB in 108 games. A native of Cabudare, Venezuela, he was signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2017.

 

Ridings, 26, posted a 1.80 ERA (5.0IP, 4H, 2R/1ER, 2BB, 7K) in five relief appearances in his Major League debut this season. Additionally, he combined with Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to go 5-0 with 1.24 ERA (29.0IP,16H, 8R/4ER, 4BB, 42K, 2HR) in 22 relief appearances. Following the season, the right-hander was tabbed by Baseball America as having the “Best Fastball” among Yankees farmhands. The Huntington, N.Y., native was signed by the Yankees as a minor league free agent on January 6, 2021. He was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the eighth round of the of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft. Additionally, he was acquired by the Kansas City Royals from Chicago-NL in exchange for OF Donnie Dewees on March 9, 2019.

 

Sears, 25, went 10-2 with one save and a 3.46 ERA (104.0IP, 86H, 43R/40ER, 29BB, 136K, 11HR) in 25 appearances (18 starts) between Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2021. Among Yankees farmhands, the left-handed pitcher ranked second in wins, third in strikeouts and sixth in ERA (min. 100.0IP). In four minor league seasons (2017-19, ‘21), the Sumter, S.C., native has gone 16-13 with five saves and a 3.07 ERA (234.1IP, 178H, 91R/80ER, 68BB, 286K, 21HR) in 66 games (34 starts). He was acquired by the Yankees from the Seattle Mariners along with RHP Juan Then in exchange for RHP Nick Rumbelow on November 18, 2017. He was originally selected by Seattle in the 11th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft out of The Citadel (S.C.).
