David Beckham’s Inter Miami Desperate to Improve in 2022

The high profile nature of their owner David Beckham means that Inter Miami have been firmly under the media spotlight since their entry into MLS in 2020. Perhaps we expect too much from a franchise that has only been involved in the division for two seasons but, with Beckham’s contacts in the game, their development is being constantly monitored.

After a relatively promising start to life when Inter made the Play-In round in 2020, they were expected to go one better this year. However, 2021 ended in disappointment when the club failed to make it beyond the regular season.

New Coach, Same Result

David Beckham used those contacts within soccer to appoint his former Manchester United colleague Phil Neville as the new Inter Miami coach. Neville stepped into a job that had been vacated by Diego Alonso and the clear aim was to make the playoffs this time.

The new coach had inherited a squad full of promise: Argentine international striker Gonzalo Higuain was the standout name following a prolific club career that had taken him to Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and Chelsea amongst others.

Neville added to the squad with new trades of his own: Experienced EPL defender Ryan Shawcross was one of those to move across the Atlantic while Inter also acquired the services of French international midfielder Blaise Matuidi.

These were exciting times for Inter Miami fans but the roster failed to live up to its potential. Higuain endured a poor first full season at the DRV PNK Stadium, scoring 12 goals in 30 games. Shawcross was injured for much of the campaign and the team finished in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, outside of the playoff places.

The club reacted by organizing a mass clear out of many of its underperforming players. Beckham will want a serious improvement on that 11th place but can Inter really expect to make it to the postseason in 2022?

Prospects for 2022

Inter Miami are getting no support from the sportsbooks who have already given their verdict on the destination of the MLS Cup in 2022. The 2021 season may have just come to an end but markets are already in place for next year via online betting sites affiliated with sbo.net.

The odds show that Seattle Sounders and Real Salt Lake are the joint favorites in most places. New England Revolution, Orlando City and Los Angeles FC are among those who are tipped to make a strong challenge.

At the wrong end of that market, Inter Miami are one of the rank outsiders for glory in 2022. In fact, Coach Neville’s team carry the worst odds of any franchise in MLS.

Once the new campaign finally gets underway, those markets will be updated in response to every game that takes place in Major League Soccer 2022. The bookmakers associated with sbo.net will monitor the results and update the prices accordingly.

While on the website, visitors can also take in a number of news and opinion articles relating to MLS and soccer in general. If they have enough knowledge to make an informed decision, they can also get involved with those betting markets.

Each of the sportsbooks linked to the site are taking on new account holders and there are welcome packages up for grabs. Different sets of deposit and withdrawal options are available and there is effective customer service and the potential for live streaming sport thrown into the mix.

It’s a good website to follow if you intend to stake on Major League Soccer, even if the claims of Inter Miami are sparking little interest.

What Needs to Change?

Some fans might say that changes need to be made at the very top. Head Coach Phil Neville arrived with little in the way of a successful pedigree and he’s been underwhelming in the Miami dugout thus far.

It’s almost certain that he will be given another season to turn things around but 2022 will be a pivotal year for the franchise. The existing players, Higuain and Matuidi included, need to play to their full potential while Inter will be looking for effective new trades ahead of the new season.
