The New York Yankees today announced that they will hold Derek Jeter Hall of Fame Induction Tribute Night on Friday, September 9, with the first 40,000 guests in attendance receiving a replica Derek Jeter Hall of Fame plaque courtesy of Bank of America.

The former Yankees captain will be in attendance and throw out the game’s ceremonial first pitchprior to the Yankees’ 7:05 p.m. game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Additionally, Jeter’s Cooperstown plaque will be displayed on the field prior to first pitch and available for fans to view up close throughout the game in the New York Yankees Museum presented by Bank of America, which is located on the 200 Level of Yankee Stadium near Section 210.

The face of the franchise for a generation, Jeter played a franchise-record 20 seasons in pinstripes from 1995-2014, winning five World Series (1996, ‘98-2000, ’09) and appearing in two others (2001, ’03). A 14-time All-Star, 1996 AL Rookie of the Year and 2000 World Series MVP, he was a 2020 Baseball Hall of Fame inductee and enshrined in Cooperstown on September 8, 2021. His iconic No. 2 was retired by the Yankees on May 14, 2017.

Jeter retired as the Yankees’ all-time leader in hits (3,465), games played (2,747), doubles (544), stolen bases (358) and at-bats (11,195), tallying eight 200-hit seasons. His career hit total remains the sixth-highest in Major League Baseball history.

Jeter’s teams made the postseason in 17 of 20 seasons, including each of his first 13 years with the club. On June 3, 2003, he became the 14th captain in club history, holding the post until the end of his playing career — the longest such tenure in club history. Born in Pequannock, N.J., Jeter was drafted by the club as the sixth overall pick of the 1992 First-Year Player Draft out of Central High School in Kalamazoo, Mich.
