The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired RHP Scott Effross from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for minor leaguer RHP Hayden Wesneski.
Effross, 28, has gone 1-4 with one save and a 2.66 ERA (44.0IP, 36H, 19R/13ER, 11BB, 50K, 2HR) in 47 games (one start) this season. His 47 appearances are tied for the second-most in the Majors. He has stranded 24 of his 28 inherited runner this year (85.7%), the third-best mark in the National League.
Effross has not allowed a run in 20 of his 24 relief appearances since the beginning of June, posting a 2.01 ERA (22.1IP, 5ER) in that span.
In two Major League seasons with the Cubs (2021-22), he has gone 3-5 with one save and a 2.91 ERA (58.2IP, 49H, 25R/19ER, 12BB, 68K, 4HR) in 61 appearances (one start). The Twinsburg, Ohio, native was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 15th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Indiana University.
