Yankees Dump Joey Gallo To Dodgers For RHP Clayton Beeter

The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired minor league right-handed pitcher Clayton Beeter from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for outfielder Joey Gallo.

Beeter, 23, has gone 0-3 with a 5.75 ERA (51.2IP, 48H, 37R/33ER, 35BB, 88K, 10HR) in 18 games (16 starts) with Double-A Tulsa this season. His 15.33 strikeouts per 9.0 innings this season rank second among all minor league pitchers who have tossed at least 50.0 innings.  In 2021, he was named a Organization All-Star after posting a 3.44 ERA (52.1IP, 38H, 24R/20ER, 22BB, 78K, 5HR) in 28 combined games (27 starts) with High-A Great Lakes and Double-A Tulsa. Over two minor league seasons in the Dodgers organization (2021-22), the right-hander has gone 0-9 with a 4.59 ERA (104.0IP, 86H, 61R/53ER, 57BB, 166K, 15HR) in 46 games (43 starts).  Entering the 2022 season, he was tabbed by Baseball America as having the “best curveball” among Dodgers minor league pitchers and was recently ranked by the publication as the No. 15 prospect in the Dodgers organization. The Fort Worth, Tex., native was originally selected by the Dodgers in the second round of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft out of Texas Tech University.

Gallo, 28, batted .159 (37-for-233) with 32R, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 12HR, 24RBI and 40BB in 82 games with the Yankees this season. In parts of eight Major League seasons with the Texas Rangers (2015-21) and Yankees (2021-22), the left-handed batter has hit .201 (452-for-2,247) with 384R, 85 doubles, 8 triples, 170HR, 363RBI and 401BB in 708 career games. Gallo was acquired by the Yankees along with left-handed pitcher Joely Rodríguez and cash considerations from Texas in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Glenn Otto and infielders Ezequiel Duran, Trevor Hauver and Josh Smith. The Henderson, Nev., native was originally selected by the Rangers in the supplemental first round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft (39th overall) out of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nev.
