Locastro Leaving Yankees, Brito and Krook Bronx-Bound

The Yankees made the following roster moves:

  • Added RHP Jhony Brito and LHP Matt Krook to the Major League roster.
  • OF Tim Locastro elected free agency in lieu of accepting an outright assignment.

Brito, 24, split the 2022 season with Double-A Somerset (8GS) and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (18G/15GS), combining to go 11-4 with a 2.96 ERA (112.2IP, 95H, 40R/37ER, 35BB, 91K, 9HR) in 26 games (23 starts). Among Yankees farmhands, the right-handed pitcher ranked second in wins, fifth in starts and sixth in innings pitched. Following the season, was named by Baseball America as having the “Best Control” among Yankees farmhands. Over five minor league seasons (2016-17, ’19, ’21-22), he has gone 26-21 with two saves and a 3.71 ERA (392.2IP, 375H, 196R/162ER, 81BB, 344K, 28HR) in 86 games (70 starts). A native of Puerto Plata, D.R., he was signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on November 9, 2015.

Krook, 28, went 10-7 with a 4.09 ERA (138.2IP, 120H, 71R/63ER, 73BB, 155K, 19HR) in 29 games (22 starts) with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2022. Among Yankees farmhands, the left-handed pitcher ranked second in strikeouts and innings pitched, third in wins and tied for sixth in starts. His 155K ranked second and his 10 wins were tied for third among Triple-A pitchers in 2022. Following the season, was named an MiLB.com Organization All-Star. Over six minor league seasons (2016-19, ’21-22), the Hillsborough, Calif., native has gone 28-31 with a 4.21 ERA (500.2IP, 405H, 279R/234ER, 316BB, 580K, 36HR) in 160 games (95 starts). He was originally drafted by the Miami Marlins in Competitive Balance Round A (35th overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft but did not sign. He was then drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the fourth round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Oregon. The left-handed pitcher was later traded by San Francisco to the Tampa Bay Rays along with INF Christian Arroyo, OF Denard Span and RHP Stephen Woods Jr. in exchange for INF Evan Longoria on December 20, 2017. The Yankees selected him from Tampa Bay in the first round of the Triple-A phase of the 2020 Rule 5 Draft on December 10, 2020.
