The Yankees claimed RHP Allan Winans off waivers from the Atlanta Braves.

Winans, 29, made two starts for Atlanta in 2024 (0-2, 7.2IP, 14H, 14R/13ER, 4BB, 4K, 3HR). The right-handed pitcher spent the majority of the season with Triple-A Gwinnett, going 7-5 with a 3.30 ERA (114.2IP, 103H, 44R/42ER, 31BB, 100K, 15HR) in 24 games (16 starts). He was named the International League “Pitcher of the Month” in June after going 1-0 with a 1.16 ERA (31.0IP, 23H, 6R/4ER, 4BB, 36K, 2HR) over five starts. Among Braves farmhands in 2024, he was tied for fourth in wins, ranked fifth in innings pitched and ninth in strikeouts. Winans was designated for assignment by Atlanta on January 17, 2025.

Over parts of two Major League seasons with the Braves (2023-24), Winans has gone 1-4 with a 7.20 ERA (40.0IP, 51H, 33R/32ER, 12BB, 38K, 8HR) in eight starts. In six minor league seasons in the New York Mets (2018-19, ’21) and Braves (2022-24) organizations, he has gone 20-21 with 15 saves and a 2.95 ERA (414.1IP, 335H, 158R/136ER, 122BB, 378K, 36HR) in 128 games (45 starts).

The Bakersfield, Calif., native was originally selected by New York-NL in the 17th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of Campbell University (N.C.). Winans was then selected by Atlanta in the third round of the 2021 Rule 5 Draft.
