The Yankees claimed RHP Owen White off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds.
White, 25, made three relief appearances with the Texas Rangers in 2024 (3.0IP, 9H, 8R/ER, 1BB, 1HR). He spent the majority of last season with Triple-A Round Rock, going 2-8 with one save and a 5.64 ERA (99.0IP, 107H, 68R/62ER, 48BB, 87K, 14HR) in 29 games (15 starts). He was also ranked by Baseball America as the No. 5 prospect in the Rangers organization prior to the 2024 season.
White has made five career Major League appearances with the Texas Rangers (2023-24), going 0-1 with a 16.71 ERA (7.0IP, 14H, 13R/ER, 3BB, 4K, 3HR). Over parts of four minor league seasons in the Rangers organization (2021-24), the right-handed pitcher has gone 19-16 with one save and a 4.37 ERA (323.1IP, 295H, 169R/157ER, 138BB, 327K, 39HR) in 78 games (61 starts).
The Mount Ulla, N.C., native was originally selected by the Texas Rangers in the second round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of Carson High School (N.C.). White was designated for assignment by Texas on December 20, 2024. He was then acquired by the Cincinnati Reds from Texas in exchange for cash considerations on January 6, 2025. Additionally, he was designated for assignment by Cincinnati on January 29, 2025.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated RHP Allan Winans for assignment.
