Mets to Retire Carlos Beltrán’s No. 15, Induct Him into Team Hall of Fame
The New York Mets have announced that franchise star Carlos Beltrán will have his iconic No. 15 retired and will be inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame during a pregame ceremony on Saturday, September 19.
The ceremony will take place prior to the Mets’ 4:10 p.m. game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field.
Beltrán Joins Elite Group in Mets History
Beltrán will become just the ninth player in franchise history to have his number retired, joining Mets legends such as Tom Seaver, Mike Piazza, Keith Hernandez, Darryl Strawberry, and David Wright.
The organization has also retired numbers for managers Gil Hodges and Casey Stengel, along with Jackie Robinson.
Hall of Fame Career and Mets Legacy
Earlier this year, Beltrán was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame and will be inducted on July 26, wearing a Mets cap on his plaque.
“Carlos Beltrán was one of the greatest offensive players in team history, combining power and speed with elite defense,” said Mets owners Steve and Alex Cohen. “We are thrilled to celebrate his Hall of Fame career and honor his lasting impact on this organization.”
During his time with the Mets, Beltrán ranked among the Top 10 in franchise history in multiple categories, including home runs, RBIs, runs scored, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS.
The Manatí, Puerto Rico native signed with the Mets in 2005 and quickly became a cornerstone player. He was a five-time All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner, and two-time Silver Slugger during his tenure.
His standout 2006 season saw him finish second in the National League in WAR (8.2), helping lead the Mets to the NLCS.
Beltrán Reflects on Honor
“I want to thank Steve and Alex Cohen for this tremendous honor—it’s the highest possible tribute, and I truly feel blessed,” said Beltrán. “The Mets hold a special place in my heart, and this summer will be incredibly meaningful.”
Current Role and Additional Notes
Beltrán returned to the Mets organization in 2023 and currently serves as a Special Assistant to President of Baseball Operations David Stearns.
Outfielder Tyrone Taylor, who previously wore No. 15, will switch to No. 28 ahead of the ceremony.
