The New York Yankees have acquired right-handed pitcher Wilmy Sanchez from the Houston Astros in exchange for infielder Braden Shewmake, the team announced.
Wilmy Sanchez Adds Bullpen Depth

During the 2025 season, Sanchez went 2-4 with seven saves and a 6.05 ERA in 46 relief appearances. He ranked among Astros minor leaguers near the top in both saves and appearances.
Over five minor league seasons in the Astros organization, Sanchez has posted an 8-6 record with a 3.80 ERA, along with 248 strikeouts in 189.1 innings. The Santiago, Dominican Republic native signed with Houston as a non-drafted free agent in 2022.

Shewmake, 28, appeared in 10 games this season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, batting .250 with two doubles and one RBI.
At the Major League level, he has played in 31 career games with the Atlanta Braves and Chicago White Sox, recording a .118 batting average.
Across seven minor league seasons, Shewmake has hit .247 with 42 home runs and 206 RBIs in 451 games. A former first-round pick (21st overall) by Atlanta in the 2019 MLB Draft, he has also spent time with the White Sox, Kansas City Royals, and Yankees organizations.
Yankees Continue Pitching Depth Moves
The trade adds another young arm to the Yankees system as the organization continues to build pitching depth early in the 2026 season.
