UFL to Expand with New Oklahoma City Team in 2028 Season

United Football League to Launch Oklahoma City Expansion Team in 2028

The United Football League has announced plans to expand with a new franchise in Oklahoma City, set to begin play in the 2028 spring football season.

The yet-to-be-named team will serve as a key part of the league’s long-term growth strategy, bringing professional football and family-friendly entertainment to one of the nation’s most passionate football markets.

UFL Targets Oklahoma City as Expansion Hub

“Oklahoma lives and breathes football, so bringing the UFL to Oklahoma City was an easy decision,” said UFL Co-Owner Mike Repole. “This is a state that truly understands the game, and we’re committed to building a franchise the entire community can support.”

UFL President and CEO Russ Brandon added that Oklahoma City represents a major opportunity for professional football growth, citing its strong sports culture and proven fan support.

“Oklahoma City has long been one of the biggest untapped markets for professional football,” Brandon said. “With a new stadium and a passionate fan base, this is a natural fit for the UFL.”

MAPS 4 Multipurpose Stadium to Anchor Franchise

The expansion team will play at the new MAPS 4 Multipurpose Stadium, currently under development in downtown Oklahoma City.

Scheduled to open in early 2028, the state-of-the-art venue will feature a capacity of approximately 10,000 and offer a modern fan experience. The stadium is part of a larger downtown development project designed to enhance Oklahoma City’s sports and entertainment district.

Designed by Populous, the stadium will host a variety of events beyond football, including soccer, concerts and other major entertainment events.

City Leaders Welcome UFL Expansion

“Oklahoma City welcomes the UFL to our championship city,” said Mayor David Holt. “We love sports and football, and this is a perfect fit for our community.”

The stadium will be managed by Echo Investment Capital, led by CEO Christian Kanady, with construction overseen by Lingo Construction. Groundbreaking is expected to begin in June.

Building on Oklahoma’s Football Tradition

Oklahoma has a deep-rooted football culture, from powerhouse college programs like the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to strong high school traditions across the state.

The UFL aims to tap into that passion as it continues to grow its footprint across the United States.

UFL Continues Expansion During 2026 Season

The UFL kicked off its 2026 season with eight teams, including the Birmingham Stallions, Houston Gamblers, DC Defenders and St. Louis Battlehawks.

The league’s 10-week regular season will culminate in the 2026 UFL Championship Game on June 13, as the league continues to build momentum ahead of its planned expansion.
