ASC New York to Open 2026 NPSL Season Saturday Night vs. New York Shockers

American Soccer Club New York will open its 2026 National Premier Soccer League season on Saturday night, hosting the New York Shockers at Mitchel Athletic Complex.

Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. ET, marking the beginning of the Fighting Tomcats’ second season in franchise history.

ASC New York Looks to Build on Inaugural Season

After finishing just one point shy of a playoff spot in 2025 with a 2-4-4 record, ASC New York enters the new season with added motivation to secure a postseason berth.

“I’m very excited,” said head coach John Fitzgerald. “The team has trained well and is getting comfortable with the new facility. We’re hoping for a strong crowd to help push us.”

Familiar Rivalry with New York Shockers

ASC New York faced the Shockers twice last season, with both matches ending in 1-1 draws, setting the stage for another competitive matchup to open 2026.

Defender Andrew Watson believes last year’s near-miss has fueled the team’s preparation.

“We came so close last season, and it’s definitely motivated us,” Watson said. “We’ve brought that energy into training and feel ready to get started.”

North Atlantic Conference Competition Returns

The Fighting Tomcats will once again compete in the North Atlantic Conference alongside the Shockers, New Haven United, Osner’s FC, AC Newport and Santa Cruz FC.

Midfielder Jose Mejia emphasized the team’s high expectations heading into the opener.

“We have a great group and expectations are always high here,” Mejia said. “We’re excited for the home opener.”

Opening Night Promotions and Livestream

Opening Night will feature LifeVac Night, with the first 100 fans receiving a LifeVac device. Additionally, players age 10 and under will receive two complimentary tickets courtesy of LifeVac.

Fans can purchase tickets online ahead of kickoff.

Saturday’s match will also be streamed live on YouTube via Game in Frame, with Josh Pratt providing play-by-play coverage.

Strong Start Key for 2026 Campaign

After a slow start last season, ASC New York is focused on building early momentum in 2026.

“It’s very important to start strong,” Fitzgerald said. “Momentum early in the season can make a big difference as the schedule unfolds.”
