DC Defenders QB Jordan Ta’amu Out for Remainder of 2026 Season
The DC Defenders announced Monday that quarterback Jordan Ta’amu will miss the remainder of the 2026 season after suffering a season-ending injury during last week’s game against the Louisville Kings.
Head coach Shannon Harris confirmed that Ta’amu has been placed on Injured Reserve following the injury, which occurred in the first quarter.
Ta’amu Was Having MVP-Caliber Season
Before the injury, Ta’amu was putting together one of the top quarterback seasons in the United Football League.
Through eight games, he completed 109-of-177 passes for 1,515 yards and 14 touchdowns, while also adding 198 rushing yards on 46 carries.
“We never want to lose a quarterback of that caliber,” Harris said. “He’s been an MVP-level player and a championship leader for us, but we still believe in this football team.”
Defenders Turn to Spencer Sanders and Jason Bean
With Ta’amu sidelined, the Defenders are expected to lean on quarterbacks Spencer Sanders and Jason Bean moving forward.
Sanders joined DC in 2025 following a standout college career at Oklahoma State and Ole Miss, where he totaled nearly 10,000 passing yards and over 2,000 rushing yards during his collegiate career.
Bean was acquired earlier this season in a trade with the Louisville Kings. Prior to joining DC, he threw for 819 yards and four touchdowns in three starts for Louisville. Bean also spent time with the Indianapolis Colts organization after starring at Kansas and North Texas.
Defenders Face Major Challenge Moving Forward
The loss of Ta’amu represents a significant blow to the Defenders as they continue their push toward the UFL playoffs.
DC will next travel to face the Orlando Storm on Friday, May 22 at 8 p.m. ET at Inter&Co Stadium.
