UFL Announces 2026 Sportsman of the Year Award Nominees
The United Football League has announced the eight team nominees for the 2026 UFL Sportsman of the Year Award, recognizing players who exemplify leadership, character, professionalism, and community service both on and off the field.
The award honors the player who best demonstrates a commitment to serving others, leading by example, and representing the values of the UFL through meaningful community engagement and positive influence within their organization.
2026 UFL Sportsman of the Year Nominees
The nominees representing each UFL franchise are:
- Mac Brown – Louisville Kings
- Alex Cook – Birmingham Stallions
- Malik Fisher – Houston Gamblers
- Alex Matheson – Orlando Storm
- Ellis Merriweather – Dallas Renegades
- Ryan Nelson – Columbus Aviators
- Cornell Powell – DC Defenders
- Spencer Rolland – St. Louis Battlehawks
Award Recognizes Excellence Beyond Football
The UFL Sportsman of the Year Award honors players who make a positive impact in their communities while demonstrating leadership among teammates and professionalism throughout the season.
According to the league, the recipient embodies the highest standards of character, integrity, and service, serving as a role model both on and off the field.
The award highlights the importance of community involvement and recognizes athletes who use their platform to make a meaningful difference beyond game day.
Building on a New UFL Tradition
The Sportsman of the Year Award was introduced in 2025 as part of the league’s commitment to recognizing players for their contributions outside of football.
Last year, Travis Feeney of the St. Louis Battlehawks became the inaugural recipient of the honor.
Winner to Be Announced During United Bowl Week
The 2026 UFL Sportsman of the Year winner will be announced on Friday, June 12, during the UFL Awards presented by Dynasty Financial Partners.
The ceremony is part of United Bowl Week festivities leading up to the United Bowl, which will take place on Saturday, June 13 at 3:00 p.m. ET at Audi Field and air nationally on ABC.
Celebrating Leadership Across the UFL
While championships are won on the field, the Sportsman of the Year Award recognizes the players who make an impact far beyond the game, honoring those who lead through service, mentorship, and dedication to their communities throughout the season.
