Corey Chamblin Named 2026 UFL Assistant Coach of the Year
The United Football League has named Corey Chamblin, defensive coordinator of the St. Louis Battlehawks, as the 2026 UFL Assistant Coach of the Year.
The award recognizes Chamblin’s role in building the league’s top-ranked defense during the 2026 regular season and was voted on by a panel of media members, coaches, team personnel, and broadcast partners.
Battlehawks Defense Dominated the UFL in 2026
Under Chamblin’s leadership, the Battlehawks finished the regular season as the UFL’s No. 1 defense, leading the league in both total defense and rushing defense.
St. Louis allowed the fewest:
- Total yards
- Rushing yards
- Rushing touchdowns
- First downs
- Opponent rushing average
The Battlehawks also ranked second in passing defense and scoring defense, surrendering just 19.6 points per game.
Historic Pass Rush Fueled St. Louis Success
Chamblin’s defense generated a franchise-record 31 sacks, the second-highest single-season total in UFL history.
The Battlehawks also:
- Recorded 52 tackles for loss
- Finished third in the UFL in tackles for loss
- Placed three defenders among the league’s Top 10 sack leaders
The aggressive defensive approach helped propel St. Louis to one of the league’s best records and a berth in the 2026 UFL Playoffs.
Championship Pedigree Throughout Coaching Career
Chamblin joined St. Louis prior to the 2026 season after serving on the coaching staff of the Birmingham Stallions, helping guide the franchise to the 2024 UFL Championship.
His professional coaching résumé also includes:
- Head Coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders
- Head Coach of the Toronto Argonauts
- Assistant coaching positions with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Calgary Stampeders, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Throughout his CFL career, Chamblin was part of three Grey Cup championship teams and also captured a title with Frankfurt Galaxy in 2006.
Recognition Comes Ahead of United Bowl
Chamblin will be honored during the UFL Awards presented by Dynasty Financial Partners as part of United Bowl week festivities.
The United Bowl will be played on Saturday, June 13, at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET and national television coverage on ABC.
