Week 2 of the 2026 NFL season delivered another Sunday packed with historic performances, career milestones and dramatic finishes.
With two games still remaining on the Week 2 schedule, seven teams emerged with perfect 2-0 records: Buffalo, Cincinnati, Las Vegas, Minnesota, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle.
There was also no shortage of late-game drama. Seven games were within one score during the fourth quarter, with six ultimately decided by eight points or fewer. Cleveland, Green Bay, New Orleans and Philadelphia all produced game-winning scores in the final four minutes of regulation or overtime.
Green Bay’s 20-17 overtime victory over the New York Jets continued another early-season trend: for the fifth time in six seasons, the NFL has featured at least one overtime game in both Week 1 and Week 2.
Brock Purdy Makes NFL History
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy turned in one of Sunday’s most impressive performances in a 35-13 victory over Miami.
Purdy completed 20 of 22 passes — a remarkable 90.9 percent — for 287 yards and two touchdowns, producing a 149.1 passer rating. He also added a rushing touchdown.
The performance made Purdy the first player in NFL history to complete at least 90 percent of his passes while throwing for at least 285 yards and two touchdowns and adding a rushing score in the same game.
Purdy now owns eight career games with a passer rating of at least 140, the most by a player during his first five NFL seasons with a minimum of 10 attempts in each game. He also has 13 career games with a passer rating of 130 or better, another record for a player through his first five seasons.
Christian McCaffrey Reaches 100 Touchdowns
Christian McCaffrey added another major milestone to his career with two rushing touchdowns against Miami.
McCaffrey reached 100 career scrimmage touchdowns in his 114th game, passing Jerry Rice, who reached the mark in 115 games, to become the fourth-fastest player to 100 scrimmage touchdowns during the Super Bowl era.
Only LaDainian Tomlinson (89 games), Emmitt Smith (93) and Shaun Alexander (96) reached 100 faster.
McCaffrey has also achieved a remarkably symmetrical career milestone: 50 scrimmage touchdowns with Carolina and 50 with San Francisco. That makes him only the third player in NFL history to record at least 50 scrimmage touchdowns with multiple franchises, joining Marshall Faulk and Randy Moss.
San Francisco made some team history as well. Mike Evans, Kyle Juszczyk, George Kittle, McCaffrey, Demarcus Robinson and Deebo Samuel have all scored scrimmage touchdowns through the season’s first two weeks, making the 49ers the first NFL team to have six different players age 30 or older score a scrimmage touchdown over the opening two weeks.
Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase Reach 50 TD Connections
The connection between Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase reached another milestone during Cincinnati’s 20-6 victory at Houston.
Chase finished with seven receptions for 75 yards and two touchdowns, giving the Burrow-Chase combination 50 career touchdown connections.
With Burrow 29 and Chase 26, they became only the fourth quarterback-receiver combination in NFL history to reach 50 touchdown connections while both players were under age 30.
Chase’s two scores also gave him 56 career touchdown receptions, tying Dez Bryant for the fourth-most by a player before turning 27. His 14 career games with multiple touchdown catches are tied with Rob Gronkowski and Jerry Rice for second-most by a player under 27, behind only Randy Moss.
Chase now has 529 receptions through his first 80 games, second only to Michael Thomas’ 560 in NFL history over that span.
Bryce Young Leads Carolina’s Offensive Surge
Carolina quarterback Bryce Young continued his strong start to the season in a 34-3 victory at Atlanta.
Young threw for 287 yards and three touchdowns with a 116.3 passer rating. After passing for 361 yards and three scores in Week 1, he became only the second quarterback under age 26 to record at least 285 passing yards, three touchdown passes and a passer rating of at least 110 in each of his team’s first two games.
Kyler Murray previously accomplished the feat with Arizona in 2021.
The Panthers have now scored at least 30 points in each of their first two games for the first time in franchise history.
Linebacker Devin Lloyd also produced a huge defensive performance with nine tackles, three passes defensed, two tackles for loss and two interceptions, including a 16-yard pick-six.
Dak Prescott Passes Tony Romo
Dak Prescott added his name to the top of another Dallas Cowboys record during a 37-20 victory over Washington.
Prescott threw for 279 yards and four touchdowns with a 143.8 passer rating, giving him 249 career touchdown passes. That moved him past Tony Romo’s 248 for the most touchdown passes in Cowboys history.
Prescott also recorded his 13th career game with at least four touchdown passes and a passer rating of 120 or higher. That ties Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson for the second-most such performances by a player during his first 11 seasons, behind Patrick Mahomes.
Dallas’ quarterback also extended an impressive divisional streak. Prescott has now won 20 consecutive home starts against NFC East opponents, tying Tom Brady’s 20-game home winning streak against AFC East opponents for the longest by a starting quarterback against his own division since 1970.
Jordan Love Hits Milestone in 50th Start
Jordan Love celebrated his 50th career start by helping Green Bay defeat the Jets, 20-17, in overtime.
Love threw two touchdown passes without an interception, giving him 19 career starts with multiple touchdown passes and no interceptions.
That moved him past Russell Wilson for the second-most such games by a quarterback through his first 50 career starts. Patrick Mahomes holds the mark with 22.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba Explodes for Seattle
Seattle wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba followed an impressive Week 1 with an even bigger performance in the Seahawks’ 31-7 victory over Arizona.
Smith-Njigba caught nine passes for 155 yards and three touchdowns after posting eight receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown in the opener.
He became only the fifth wide receiver in NFL history to record at least eight receptions, 120 receiving yards and a touchdown reception in each of his team’s first two games of a season.
Stefon Diggs, Antonio Brown, Charley Hennigan and Andre Rison are the other receivers to accomplish the feat.
More NFL Week 2 Milestones
Las Vegas quarterback Kirk Cousins threw for 253 yards and three touchdowns in a 26-14 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. At age 38, Cousins became only the third quarterback age 38 or older to throw at least three touchdown passes in each of his team’s first two games, joining Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.
Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson added 55 receiving yards in a 9-3 victory over Chicago, increasing his career total to 8,627. The 27-year-old passed DeAndre Hopkins for the second-most receiving yards by a player before turning 28. Only Randy Moss, with 9,142, accumulated more.
Arizona tight end Trey McBride caught eight passes for 41 yards and a touchdown against Seattle. Combined with his nine-catch performance in Week 1, McBride became the fifth tight end in league history with at least eight receptions in each of his team’s first two games.
With Week 2 still awaiting its final two games, the opening weeks of the 2026 NFL season have already produced a growing collection of individual milestones, historic performances and tightly contested finishes.
